Why GMO's Are So Bad For You
Genetically Modified Organisms Are The Devil's work.
They're not. Sorry that you believed Annabelle from Trader Joe's.
GMO's (or Genetically Modified Organisms) have been making headlines for years. You see the "Non-GMO" on everything: from beef to milk to cereals. People are convinced that GMO's are awful and that they need to be avoided at ALL COSTS. This is necessarily true and here's why:
They are good for the environment
Scientists have selected some traits that give crops drought tolerances-which helps cut down on the need for water. This helps to conserve our natural resources. Also, GMO's help cut down on food waste since it helps fruits and vegetables last longer and not brown as fast.
They are good for you
GMO's help lower the cost of food, which makes people afford more healthy foods. GMO's have also helped farmers increase their crop yields by over 20%. One of the main goals for GMO's is to provide nutritious food to areas around the world with food security issues and nutrition deficiency. If the people of this world are full an healthy, it is a win for everyone.
Controversy
One of the biggest rivals to GMO's is the Non-GMO Project. Their label is everywhere. Only 10 genetically modified crops are available today: alfalfa, apples, canola, corn, cotton, papaya, potatoes, soybeans, squash and sugar beets. Only a fraction of these are available for humans and most is food for livestock. The Non-GMO Project will put its label on anything-including water (which cannot be modified). Their business model is based on the public being uneducated. Please do not fall into this trap.
Do your research on anything agriculture-related and please, do not be afraid to ask questions to a farmer. This world cannot believe that its food is bad for them when it is not.
