The Boredom Of Going Home For Spring Break

As spring break comes closer most students are exhausted and ready for a break. Ten days, no classes, no expectations. No expectations? That a funny one. Many students have high expectations of what spring break should be. Trips to the beach, cute photos with friends, the perfect Instagram spread.

A generation obsessed with social media, we become obsessed with making everything appear perfect. The perfect outfit, perfect lighting, perfect relationship. How do you even enjoy your spring break when you're hopping from one photo op to the next?

For many students, they have trips planned and already booked in advanced. For others, they are going home to their home town or are simply staying home. For those of us going home, FOMO (fear of missing out) is creeping around the corner. Normally while at college most students have plenty of events and extra activities to do.

But when at home, or when college is out of session things can get pretty bland pretty fast. For many of us, we've lived in our home town's our entire lives. College becomes a new home for students also, but when you never leave home or your returning home to your hometown you may feel like you're missing out.

When going home I can't help but get this overwhelming feeling that I'm going to be bored in three days. I've lived in the same town my entire life, and in all honesty, I feel like I've seen everything my town has to offer. Without a trip planned this spring break, I'm headed home just like last time, but this time it's going to be different.

Planning is the key to having a good time anywhere. You could go to the beach without any plans for directions, it's just the beach. With a plan, the beach can turn into a magical water desert. Your home town is the same way. With good planning here's how to prevent your spring break from sucking.

If you have friends in your home town contact them in advance to try to make plans with them. The earlier you let them know you will be coming home the more likely that you will be able to see them. I believe the number one way to prevent boredom is to be surrounded by good people.

Don't forget about your parents and family. No matter what you think they really do miss you. If it is safe for you to do so spend some time with them do so. You will be happy later when you're missing them throughout the rest of the semester. Don't forget your pets either, because they definitely miss you.

Do things you don't normally have time to do while school is in session. If you love being outside, go outside. If you like to paint or be crafty, now is an excellent time to do so. Also remember it's okay to take a day or two off to just relax, it is spring break.

If there is something that is remotely fun in your town go do it! Or if there is something you have never done before and have been putting off, now is a great opportunity to do it. But whatever you do over spring break be safe, because what happens over spring break will follow you. This isn't Vegas.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
