Culture Shock Is Good For The Soul

Having been in a different country for a couple of days, my heart has grown stronger from experiencing a new culture.

Traveling is one of my passions and something that makes my heart grow. Many ask why I want to experience literally anywhere on the globe, and there are so many reasons. I find the different buildings, shops, and music intriguing. But nothing excites me more than seeing those in different cultures live their normal daily lives. Something that may seem weird to me as an American can be an everyday thing for someone who is not. It's a crazy experience to witness these different groups of people, and culture shock stuns me.

I was given the amazing opportunity to explore many regions in Italy for three weeks. Stepping off the plane, I was immediately shocked by the unique language. Everything was so different in this European country. The traffic, bathrooms, restaurants, architectural buildings, and aspects of nature were a lot different than they are in America. Going somewhere new can be a confusing experience because of the differences, but nothing honestly excites me more.

I want to travel to see different people in this world. This trip is just proof that I want to give a small piece of my heart to many places and explore so many new parts of the world. As an American, it is super easy for me to forget those in other countries. It is also incredibly easy to forget that every country is individually extraordinary. And it's easy to forget that the world does not consist of everybody being exactly like me, and living life how I do. Not every country relies on fast food and football like America, and the crazy part of all this is that so many do not even know what America is like. The importance of experiencing different cultures is educational and something that matters.

As humans, we tend to take small things for granted. We tend to stay in our little box, and only stay connected to what we know. It would be truly beautiful if everybody learned more about the foreign exchange student or those around them when traveling.

Culture shock is an experience that will make your heart fall more on beat. If you have the chance, see for yourself. You do not need to go to another country to experience those different than you. Ask other people questions, I guarantee their world is completely different than yours. Sometimes all you need to do is watch. Look up from your phone and notice the importance of someone who grew up differently than you. It will change you and your heart for others will grow immensely.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
