I wish people could communicate with the lyrics of the songs. Well, we already do to some extent, but sometimes I just cannot structure my sentences the way it wouldn't feel wrong for me. I want my words to be as precise as lyrics of the songs which I listen to. Short and beautiful, they express everything I want and don't want to say out loud. "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran suddenly pictured everything I carried in my mind during the time of revolution in my country. Simple and deep song, which people are listening to in times of love and sorrows, reminded me of a real fire in the heart of my country.
The Euromaidan in 2014 made me realize who I am and what part of the world I belong to. It became the time when the national anthem of my country (Ukraine) finally made sense. I saw fire in the hearts of people who were protesting on the streets. The fire was everywhere... in their eyes, in their voices and in their hands. I was looking at the live broadcasting of news and I couldn't believe it.
"And I see fire inside the mountain". This mountain was the capital of Ukraine - Kiev. I saw the fire right in the center of it.
"And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time"
There was more than just one glass of wine raised for this revolution. There were rivers of blood instead. People were dying together when they were not completely sure what they were dying for. What impressed me the most is the factor that it was not only Ukrainian blood out there in the fire of revolution. If you look at the list of people killed in Euromaidan you can see that there are people of Georgian and Belorussian nationality. "And I see fire hollowing souls" , the souls of people of different nationalities, children and elderly, that ii what it was.
That is why if you want to try to picture what I felt while watching the news just listen to "I see fire" song and you will see the fire that burned all of us - Ukrainians. More than 100 hundred people, that will be remembered when I hear this song, maybe they weren't s supposed to die. But they did. And while most of the people will think about their loved ones listening to this song, I will think of the time when I was thinking for what reason could 100 people die. And I encourage you when you hear a song - read between its lines.
Because maybe it is more than just a song.
