Last month, I went to my first concert. I mean, I've been to concerts before; but nothing at this magnitude. This concert was the Saint Pablo Tour by Kanye West (aka Yeezus aka Yeezy aka Ye). This concert was LIT. Not just lit. The concert took place at the American Airlines Arena in the heart of Miami. The drive to Miami could be an article in itself. I'm not sure how many times my best friend and I got lost but it was around three.
When we eventually found the arena, which neither of us had been to before (hence us getting lost multiple times), we valet parked not wanting to subject ourselves to finding a spot on our own; not to mention having to remember said spot when the concert ended. We paid for valet and went to join the throngs of other Yeezus worshippers (just kidding) that already waiting at one of the entrances to the arena. Standing in the hot sun we watched girls walk by in their too small belly shirts and too high heels. I looked down at my own practical outfit of shorts and a nice tank top with some Pumas adorning my feet, while my friend had on jeans and her Vans.
By the time seven rolled around and we were allowed to head inside my friend and I realized we had been standing in the wrong line the whole time and had to walk up a set of stairs to go to the entrance that we needed to enter through. When we entered the arena, lines were long to purchase exclusive Yeezy merchandise and we had to go upstairs before we could find a line that was moderately short. After buying our shirts for forty bucks - overpriced but still worth it - we headed to our seats. The concert which, was supposed to start at 8 p.m., didn't start until 9:15 p.m., but like Kanye said in his song Feedback "I might not come when you want, but I'm on time."
When he got on stage the real fun began, he had a floating stage and monitors that you could look at and see him no matter how dark it got. Everyone sang along to his new songs and he played some of his old ones for us too. I took lots of videos (which I've now lost since upgrading to the new iPhone and not syncing my pictures to iCloud). When Kanye West exited stage right without saying as much of an "adieu" or a "thank you" to the people of south Florida who bought his tickets helping to effectively eradicate him from his $53 million dollar debt, he left behind confused people wondering if he just had another costume change.
When the lights came on everyone made a mad dash for the stairs trying to avoid the ensuing traffic, outside walking to valet we passed an over enthusiastic guy standing on a cement bench telling everyone to "vote Yeezy for president 2020!" saying "Yeezus is the answer!" When the valet finally came with my friends 2016 white Dodge Challenger, we got in and started our journey back home. That was the best early birthday present I could've ever given myself and it was one adventure of many more for my best friend and I.
