Yes, I still get excited for winter break, but for different reasons.

13 Reasons I Don’t Give Myself A Break During Winter Break And Still Love It

It's the most wonderful time of the year — winter break! I have over a month to enjoy winter break. No, not lounging around the house all day (even though it does happen a little more than I'd like to admit). Winter break means that I don't give myself much of a break. And I LOVE it.

Here are 13 reasons why I don't give myself much of a break during winter break.

Just because school pauses, the rest of the world doesn’t

I love being a Content Creator and Editor in Chief for the Aspiring Journalism Professionals Odyssey community, President of the Beta Eta Xi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, farmer and caregiver.

Even though the semester is over, I still have responsibilities during the break.

You only get out what you put in

I don't have to be so involved in my honor society or Odyssey, but I know that you only get out what you put in. The more effort you put into something, the more you will get out of it.

Even if the result isn't what you wanted, you still gain knowledge about what caused the unwanted results and can avoid it in the future

Christmas is during break

Making gifts, baking sweet treats, sending cards, decorating and so much more… I don't get a break from working, but I love it.

My room looks like a nightmare

Finals week is a nightmare and my room is proof of it. How can I enjoy winter break when I can barely see my floor? Not going to lie, I hate cleaning my room but love how it looks when I'm done.

Use it or lose it

Even though winter break is only a month long, I know that I'll lose what I've learned if I don't use it. Being proactive and practicing the math equations — that leave me more confused than a chameleon in a bag of skittles — leaves me better prepared for next semester.

Scholarship applications are due soon

Why wait until the last minute to complete scholarship applications when I can take the time to make sure I've given it my all? I mean, I'm only asking for people to give me money.

I can catch up with friends

Adulting sucks. It's a lot of "I'm free Friday, does that work for you?" only to be met with "I wish, but I have work/class." Winter break means that I can finally catch up with friends I haven't seen in a while.

I can update my resume

Winter break is a great time to reflect upon the past year and update your resume with the amazing things you've accomplished.

I can get an early start for next semester

Do I know what chapters the professor will cover from the textbook? Not always. But that doesn't mean I can't flip through the textbook to see what I've signed myself up for.

My inbox needs organizing

Even though I'm good at checking my email and responding, I'm not always the best at organizing emails into folders right after I've read them.

I don’t remember the last time I really cleaned my makeup brushes

I've cleaned off the surface faithfully, but I know it's been a while since I've taken the time to really give my makeup brushes a deep cleaning.

Budget assessment

I know I need to book a flight for PTK Catalyst early if I want better prices. I also know I need to make room in my budget for Regional PTK conferences, graduation and transferring to a university. There will still be unexpected expenses, but I'd rather prepare for what I know I can expect.

I wouldn’t know what to do if I wasn’t busy

I've learned to never say the "b-word" — "bored." For one, it leads to being handed a scoop shovel and being told there's a barn that could use cleaning. But I also don't know how to handle myself when I'm not busy.

Busy doesn't mean I have to be busy doing something to advance my career. Busy can mean I'm taking the time to pamper myself and get my nails done. Either way, I honestly love being busy and not giving myself much of a break during winter break

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
