With Marvel's domination in movies and television fans knew sooner or later they would get racially diverse all-stars in the Marvel universe such as Black Panther, a Spiderman of Hispanic and black descent, a black female protagonist being introduced in the Ironman comics, and now we have been introduced to Luke Cage.
Many people weren't too happy about the majority black main cast of the new Netflix show and some are even going as far as to get our bulletproof hero's series shut down. The show's popularity even caused technical issues with Netflix streamers due to so many people trying to watch the show at once even surpassing Netflix's more popular series such as Orange Is The New Black, Daredevil, and Narcos during their first seasons. Despite outstanding reviews even getting a 95% from Rotten Tomatoes, racists turn their ugly heads from the show in disgust at a little color in the Marvel universe. After responses to The Wiz Live, the black community isn't too surprised.
Many of the people who branded the show as racist took to social media to express their outrage like most closeted racists do.
This, however, didn't stop Luke Cage fans from shutting down the haters. It's fine to dislike the show because you don't find the plot interesting but to dislike a series over the color of the cast's skin is ridiculous and racist. All because the hero isn't a white male with a combover doesn't mean their story shouldn't be told. Superheroes come in all colors, sizes, dimensions and so on. Luke Cage will be defended at all costs. If racists are upset over Luke Cage as a series imagine their responses to the Black Panther movie in 2018 that has enough hype to become a trilogy. Starring Michael B. Jordan and Chadwick Boseman. I'd also like to bring to attention that Full House, Seinfeld, That 70s Show, and Freaks & Geeks had no black main cast members and the black community in no shape or form tried to get said shows canceled or spoke against them. If a change in perspective and diversity doesn't get you more interested in another heroes' story keep it to yourself and let everyone else enjoy the melanin the superhero world has to offer.
