Mid-MO Rapper Chases Big Debut

In This Article:

"I roll out of bed and clock into the studio. I spend eight hours daily hustling because I take this shit seriously. Life is all about love and connections. I don't care if I ever make enough money to get rich but I just want to do what I love. I see a lot of young cats coming into the game in hopes to make it big but that's the wrong mentality...creating music is all I need. I want to make music that inspires my people like role models in my life have inspired me." - P!lot Jaxk

Who drives you most?

"From J-Cole to my brother...I learn and study from those who come before me. Right now, from an industry perspective, I appreciate the message of Dreamville record. It is clear to me they believe everything they preaches and are genuine. There need to be more people in the industry who do this for a purpose, not a check. I see a lot of new guys doing this shit for the wrong reason. It isn't for everybody."

Regarding your commitment, what does this career mean to you?

"Life is all about love and connections. I was never dirt-poor growing up but materialistic items were never what my family went for. We were spoiled with love and even though we walk our own separate paths right now, family has taught me the great importance of having people you care about surrounding you. In my family tree, I know my roots has a few musically-gifted family members that I take a lot of pride in. I spend eight hours a day working on beats, rapping, whatever...because I want to do what I love. I take it as serious as a job but it is my creative outlet."

Every roller coaster comes with downs. Describe your respective challenges of adversity.

"My brothers Lucid and Astros struggled with me. Then he got me on music. We made one song with limited equipment and bad help. We had a crackhead director. Regardless, paying anyone to use their equipment three times a week will be money. So, we started by ourselves. Got our hands on some cheap equipment and we just went in.
Back in the day, I had to sell a little to provide for myself. I wanted to be able to buy food and clothes. My family is not poor by any standard but it was a different type of house so I didn't always pursue conversations or questions like, "Can I buy this?" I love my family and they taught me love is not necessarily traditional. They also showed me what traditional culture can look like. That being said, all love.
My family and I cared for each other although we are different. Some space is best for our relationship. Nonetheless, they raised me well. Eventually, after I stopped doing shit I shouldn't have and hustled by working whatever job I could get wherever I was at in my life."

These are topics discussed in my first interview with Pilot. Listen to him before he gets famous. Search "P!lot Jaxk" on SoundCloud. My favorite song is: Creeping. Or, maybe "Dirty Money" Ft. Astro. Tough one. At the end of the day, this is a potential big name coming out of Columbia. He is looking to prove himself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
