5 Things The Murder Mystery Junkie Should Not Miss

In This Article:

I used to think I was a semi-freak for being so intrigued by murder. Over the summer, I've watched shows, read books and listened to podcasts about different murder mysteries. After putting up a poll on Instagram asking how many people are also fascinated with the subject, I now know I'm not the only weirdo out there. In fact, 90% of the people said they loved it, and many even messaged me recommending some of their favorite murder "things." Here are five of my favorites that every murder mystery lover should check out!

1. I am a Killer - Netflix Series

Netflix really knocked it out of the park with this one. I am a Killer is a new show where each episode an inmate is interviewed for crimes and murders they have done. Family members, acquaintances, witnesses, etc. also are asked about their knowledge of the inmate, whether that be family history, their behavior or what they saw at the scene of the crime. Episode one, about James Patterson and murdering his cellmate in order to get on death row, is for sure a great pilot to the new series!

2. The Couple Next Door - Book

Caroline Buck

So this murder mystery isn't real, but it's still has the reader questioning the truth until the very last sentence. I have such a huge appreciation for fiction authors - how they come up with such crazy twists and turns is beyond me. Shari Lapena will have you needing to know what happens to baby Cora!

3. My Favorite Murder - Podcast

Caroline Buck

Whenever I have a long car ride, or I'm in the back steaming clothes at work, I always listen to this podcast. Co-hosts Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark each research a murderer or serial killer before each episode then discuss the crimes they have done, theories on it and more. They then read listeners' own hometown murders that they submit via email each week. There is even a Facebook group with over 200,000 members that continue to discuss topics even after listening to the episodes. 10/10 would recommend.

4. Mindhunter - Netflix Series

Can season two come out already? This show is based off of the behavioral unit of the FBI in the 70s, where main characters Holden Ford and Bill Tench study the minds of different serial killers in order to figure out not just how they murdered their victims, but how their minds work and why they murdered their victims.

5. In Cold Blood - Book and Movie

I am so happy that I was forced to read this for school. My freshman year, I took a censorship class, and we were required to read this book, then after did extensive research on author Truman Capote and the murderers, Dick and Perry. We came to figure out so much truth that Capote did not reveal in his report of the Clutter Family murder in Holcomb, Kansas. So, you've also got some homework for this one! Read the book, then research reports on what wasn't included in it. (You'll find some juicy stuff!) Then of course, watch the movie.

All you fellow murder lovers: you won't be disappointed in any of these goodies!

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
