Imagine going through life far away from God. You constantly do the opposite of His word, such as you don’t love your neighbor, you don’t read your bible, you don’t do anything that remotely looks like Christ on earth. Now, isn’t that scary. Being far away from God is something that as Christians we do not want to even think about. It seems foreign, but let’s be honest, in this life it is so easy to neglect the things that once made your heart dance when it comes to seeking God.It is easy to skip reading the bible and numb the sensitivity you once had to the Holy Spirit’s leading. If you have ever been far away from God, it can seem like all the walls are closing in and the only oxygen you can get is from something in this world.
But wait, think about God for a second. What do you think He is doing while you are far? Do you think He is just sitting and waiting for you to come back to Him? Or do you think He is actively pursuing you? Let’s look at the word Reckless for a second, because there is a song by Cory Asbury that describes God’s love for us as reckless. Reckless in the dictionary is described as, “without thinking or caring about the consequences of an action.” God’s love is reckless, meaning He chases us without thinking or even caring. He does anything to be with us.
For example, when God came down in human form just to give salvation to the world and die on the cross for the very thing that He hates. That is reckless love. Also, God giving the Holy Spirit as a comforter while we live on this earth. That is reckless love too. Because in all these actions He is chasing us while we are far. While our hearts run, His love chases. He doesn’t love in pieces, He loves with His whole being. He is fierce and bold about His love. He allows nothing to stop His love from reaching our hearts.
Isaiah 43:4
“Because you are precious in My sight, you are honored, and I love you, I will give other men in return for you and other people in exchange for your love.”
This passage in Isaiah is reckless because God is not thinking about consequences, He is not thinking about your past or who you perceive yourself to be. God does not want you to fight this reckless love, and if you do, He will still chase after you. It is not in God’s nature to withhold from us. His gives everything and gave everything on that cross. God’s love is reckless for you and for me, because He created us, because He died for us, because He rose for us, and because He gave us a comforter. His gives Himself completely, His entire being is living within us. The Holy Spirit is God, Jesus is God. I like to think that the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) are three very reckless ways that God’s love chases us. As sons and daughters, when we respond to His love, He rushes in and takes hold every broken piece in our hearts. He gathers them and becomes the potter, molding our lives. God’s reckless love frames our very existence; so that when things or circumstances try to break the frame, God’s love fights harder to keep us in tact with His nail-scarred hands.
