"Hello" From The Other Side

Adele has made magic once again.

Adele is making a much anticipated comeback, and she’s ready to deliver more of her emotional healing powers. Her previous successes with the albums 19 and 21 have secured her a fan base of anyone who has ever experienced the pain of a breakup, and beyond. When 21 was first released, I was a mere baby in high school, not yet having experienced the true meaning of pain from love gone awry. Even back then, I loved Adele’s music and continued to follow her right up until the moment of her hiatus in 2012, because I knew she was singing about something important. Now, having loved and lost, her music strikes a deeper chord within my core. Adele’s musical talent is a force to be reckoned with, and her previous albums have proven her music to be exceptional in healing the soul by facing pain head-on. Now she is back with a new album (out November 20th), entitled 25, and a new single.

This past week, Adele released the single “Hello”, which certainly packs an emotional punch. The premise of this song is that Adele is attempting to reconnect with a distant, past love who is unwilling to bridge this connection. Her attempt to contact this person from her past and apologize is unmatched, leaving her to explain, “At least I can say that I’ve tried, To tell you I’m sorry for breaking your heart, But it don’t matter, it clearly doesn’t tear you apart anymore.” “Hello” is a powerful mechanism in showing how people involved in your life, whether they are currently in it or not, never seem to fully disappear. There will be points in your life where emotions for a certain person are stronger than at other times, and sometimes reaching out to them can be healing for the both of you. By releasing this song before any of the others, Adele gives the impression that her new album will be focused on reconciliation with the past and with the self. Adele has called her upcoming album “a makeup album”. With her past expertise in crafting a near-perfect break-up album, she is moving forward and is sharing with us her thoughts on mending a relationship, as well as one’s heart.

Adele has a talent for providing insight into the human condition of being emotionally-centered creatures. The majority of the humans on this Earth will experience ill-fated love, and all of the feelings that are swept up with it. The hidden beauty in all of this pain, is that it is shared; it can be related to by billions of people, which can help with the healing process. Part of the human experience is learning that love is powerful enough to bring people together when everything matches up just so, or tear them apart when it doesn’t feel quite as comfortable anymore. Adele has experienced love herself, and is able to provide lyrics that both heal the soul and tug at the heartstrings in all the right ways. Her lyrics are crafted from her own pain, her own happiness, and her own dealings with love. One of the best things about Adele is that, while singing from her own point of view, she never fails to provide insight to the other side of the story that she is telling. While the anticipation of being able to unfold the dynamic stories contained in 25 is a struggle, it will be well worth the wait. Adele, you have been missed. Welcome back.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
