Lately it seems as though the pyramid scheme businesses have expanded vastly. We went from Mary Kay being one of the first, large ones to ones like Lu La Roe, Vector Marketing, and Avon. Now we are seeing a booming trend of business geared toward health like It Works. So many women are turning now to products like these, and guess what. It's not really helping your hair. I know you are sick of hair that has dead ends, that is dry, or that simply won't work with you. Ladies, it's time to stop what you are doing and try these 10 things if you want to have better, healthier-looking hair.

Don't try to do everything yourself.

This is one of the biggest, most important factors in how to maintain your hair. I get it. It's all fun to save money and to color your hair cute colors from those boxed coloring kits at CVS or Walgreens, but in reality this is just damaging them more. You need to leave certain things to the professionals if you want the best of quality. Period.

Get a trim, and get one often!

One of the best ways to keep your hair healthy and growing is getting a trim every couple weeks. Now, this all depends on the type of hair you have and it's current health state. If your hair is currently unhealthy, it is a good idea to get it trimmed every 2-3 weeks. For someone like me, who has had healthier hair for awhile, I only have to trim it once (to every other month) because I've gotten it to that healthy level.

DO NOT PICK AT DEAD ENDS!

This one actually bothers me, a lot. In high school and college I see girls picking at their dead ends all the time. I cannot tell you how unhealthy this is! I know it is so tempting but please keep yourself preoccupied with something else. When you have dead end go to the hairstylist and get a trim. That is the biggest indicator of your hair wanting a trim. By leaving dead ends go, your hair becomes dead at the ends.

Find the right hairstylist.

Yes, it might take a little bit of time and some money by going to different hairstylists, but finding the right hairstylist is huge. For example, my friend is African American and so she goes to someone different to get her hair done. Not every hairstylist is good with every type of hair. You need to find one that is willing to work with you and can help you with you hair. Don't go with that person that just chops off your hair when you say you wanted just a trim.

Let your hairstylist recommend products.

Again, all hair is different which means all hair requires different products. Just because a product costs much does not means it's high quality which means it'll work well on your hair. I know someone who bought Moroccan Oil shampoo/conditioner saying it's so good for your hair, yet it reality it made her hair fall out like crazy. Learn to take the hairstylists recommendations seriously and speak up if a product isn't working for you!

Learn to invest in your hair.

So far I talked about going to a hairstylist regularly and taking their recommendations on products. I understand that this means you will need to spend more than you would on drug store products and maintaining it yourself, but this is really crucial if you want amazing, healthy hair. You have to learn to invest a little in yourself and it will pay off in the long run. Not to mention, by investing time and money into regular appointment/products your will spend less because in the long run it won't take as much to upkeep.

Wash you hair after excessive sweat/chemicals.

If you workout a lot or sweat you have to wash your hair. Also, if you go swimming where there is chlorine and other chemicals you need to wash them out once you are done. Don't let sweat/chemicals sit in your hair overnight.

Don't fight your hair, work with it.

It can be frustrating when you want to do something with your hair and it just won't work. Rather than fighting it, learn to work with it. For example, when I was younger I had to wash my hair every other day (even every two days) because by washing it every day it would get greasy. Now that I have grown older my hair like when I was it 4-5 times a week. It takes time, but try to learn what your hair does and does not like to do.

Take a break from the heat.

Put down that hair dryer, straightener, and curling iron. Hair can get damaged when you use heat on it a lot. Now it doesn't mean you can't use it at all, but learn to use it in moderation-like anything. You might say "my hair is too frizzy if I don't straighten it" or "I'm always in a rush so I need to blow dry it," but learn to love your natural hair and plan your showers around your day. I always get showers at night so I know I will have enough time to let my hair dry naturally.

Have patience.

The most important thing you can do when trying to have healthy hair is to have patience. A big thing I notice with the companies like "It Works" is they try to sell you on how quick it makes your hair grow or how fast the product works. The human body takes time to grow, and so does your hair. It takes time to repair your hair to the point it is healthy again, but if you put in the time now I promise it will pay off. And actually, your hair grows the fastest when it is most healthiest.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
