Hair Transplant: Process, Recovery, Cost & Side Effects

With so much progress in modern medical technologies, people aren't as hesitant to undergo more and riskier procedures as they were a few years ago.

With so many people suffering from premature balding at a young age, hair transplant has become somewhat of a popular procedure to help them get back the appealing look and confidence they once had.

Even though the procedure can be costly, more and more people in India are opting for hair grafts because of the high success rate.

But is the procedure really safe? How long does it last? Does the procedure have any side effects on the body?

Here's what you need to know to clear all your doubts:

The Procedures

The surgical process involves removal of hair follicles from any site of the patient's body and then placed on the hairless or balding area. The latest technique called Follicular Hair Transplantation (FUT) picks up follicular clusters of hair. FUT can be done in two ways Strip Harvesting and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

Strip Harvesting

A strip of skin in an area of good hair growth is removed and placed on the balding site. It leaves a slim scar at the extraction site but heals within two weeks.

Follicular Unit Extraction

FUE can take place in a single long session or multiple small sessions. This procedure is more time consuming than strip surgery. But the results are more natural and with no marks or scars.

The FUE Process

  • Preparing and Trimming the Donor Area

The hair in the donor area is trimmed in order to identify and remove healthy donor hairs.

  • Preparing and Removing the Hair Follicles

After preparing the donor area, hair follicles units containing 1 to 4 hairs are removed using local anesthesia and the donor area is sutured.

  • Placing the Follicles

Then using very small micro blades or fine needles follicular grafts are then placed one by one in a sequence that best matches your natural hair growth pattern.

  • The aftermath of the surgery

After the surgery, tiny incisions left behind after the follicular units extracted are visible on the patient's operated area.
The incision marks will heal completely in a few days and some months after the procedure, patients should start noticing new hair growth.

How much does a hair transplant cost in India?

The cost varies based on the requirement of the patient. Roughly cost starts at about Rs 45,000 and may go up to Rs 2, 00,000.
The price differs from individual to individual depending upon various factors such as:

  • The Number of Hair Transplanted
  • The Number of Grafts Needed
  • The Number of Sessions Required
  • Type of technologies used

Important facts

  • Not everyone can expect a fancy amount of hair growth. The result of the transplant varies from person to person.
  • The cost of the procedure depends upon the number of grafts. The more the number of grafts, the higher the cost.
  • The process is painless since local anaesthesia is used.
  • Unnecessary harvesting is possible.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
