Don Draper pounding lunch break cocktails with his boss, Roger Sterling, at 1960s New York City restaurants in "Mad Men."
Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson drinking beer AFTER beer as co-workers in the Netflix original "Drinking Buddies."
Frank and Charlie getting obliterated in "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia."
Maybe I watch too many TV shows and movies, but I've always wanted to drink with my coworkers.
From hardcore venting sessions, to having a reason to leave work a little early, knowing you have someone to go get a beer with after a long day is a great feeling.
If you're looking for your own drinking buddy at your workplace, keep an eye out for the following signs:
1. They've shown up to work hungover.
If you know a co-worker has shown up to work hungover, you know two things: 1. They drink. 2. They drink after work. They also are clearly willing to push the limits of the latter. These are all good things.
2. They listen to Drake.
This is a simple, yet effective indicator. I don't know why it is, but it is. Anyone who listens to Drake will also be down to go get a drink. "Drinking every night because we drink to my accomplishments."
3. You've seen them hold a drink on their Instagram.
Maybe it's with their significant other. Maybe it's out with their friends. But if they're willing to drink in a picture for the whole world to see, they're probably very down to drink after work, too.
4. They've worn a t-shirt or hat from a microbrewery on Casual Friday.
OK, now we're talking. Not only does this person like beer, they literally want to brand themselves with some beer swag— at work no less. They might as well just wear a sign that says "I LOVE BEER LET'S GO GET BEER AFTER WORK."
5. They've brought a specific type of beer or liquor up in conversation before.
Not only have they suggested a type of beer to someone at your work, but they probably also named the brewer.
"Not a fan of IPAs? Try a sour. Victory's Sour Monkey is TASTY."
Oh yeah. This dude wants to drink. He might also lead you to some good new beers and probably knows good places to find them.
6. They've worn a football jersey, t-shirt or hat to work.
If they watch football enough to rep a team at work, chances are they also love to participate in happy hour. Not only will they want to grab some drinks, but they might even want to order some mozzarella sticks and chicken fingers.
7. They've thrown a piece of paper into a trash can as if they were playing beer pong.
Pro tip: if they said "KOBE!" while doing this, call off the rest of the work day and just go get drinks with them now. This person might not know what good beer tastes like yet, but hey, maybe you can teach them.
8. You've seen them drink in the office — during work.
Whatever the occasion was— someone's birthday, a Christmas party, etc.— drinking at the office was an option and they were one of the first people to capitalize on this.
9. They've told you about how drunk they got when you asked how their weekend was.
You: "How was your weekend?"
Them: "Wild, man. My friend from college came to visit and we were drinking from like an 11 AM brunch all the way until like 2 AM. I might still be drunk."
This co-worker wants to make memories. Join them.
10. You complement each other well in the workplace.
Some things just work well together— even if you never saw it coming. Wayne and Garth. Harry and Lloyd. Maverick and Goose. Frank and Charlie. Even Victory Brewing's Golden Monkey and Sour Monkey. Two noticeably different beers, forming a most righteous and complementary pair. We all have Taste Buds. Hopefully, this helps you find yours.
