For today’s post, I am covering a song from "Smash", which represents so much for me as an indie author. This song speaks to all those who dream of going towards something you have been envisioning towards your whole life. This could be in dance, art, singing, writing etc. This song and every word speaks to me. I know it was originally done by Carrie Underwood, but I love the version which was sung by the very talented actress and Broadway singer, Megan Hilty on "Smash". It was very fitting for her on this show, since both her and the also amazing Katherine McPhee are competing for the same role. You should look at the song in it’s entirety and listen to it: You are welcome to listen to both versions, but I like the slow tempo brought up on the interpretation by Hilty.
We have all at one time have felt like a dark horse and someone along the way has tried to stop our dreams, whether they meant to or not. However, I know for me, the journey I have taken with my writing has lead me to many wonderful open doors, but it has also led me to some not so great moments where I have learned life lessons of what not to do. But I am still grateful for those lessons.
Back when I first began writing, I heard such negative things from others whether online or on the news about how self publishing was not to be taken seriously. I even had other supposed friend saying, “Why are you making a career in writing?”, etc. It was not fun to hear those comments. However, I brushed them off. Then I focused on my passion and kept pushing forward. I am happy to say I have been acknowledged for my work and I have many readers who will send me an email and write out a review of how much they enjoyed my stories. For me, this means so much. For one, they took the time out of their day for writing.
I am happy to be pursuing what I love. I enjoy writing and creating stories. But now I am also able to work on giving advice on writing and helping others who might want to go into this type of field. In any case, this song speaks to me because at one time we have had our ups and downs, but the key is to never give up. You have to hold on to what you believe and guess what, as the song reminds us, Dreams do come true, even if sometimes we think it is crazy that they do. But it is possible and always believe it can happen.
Hello, you long shots, you dark horse runners
Hairbrush singers, dashboard drummers
Hello, you wild magnolias just waiting to bloom
There's a little bit of all that inside of me and you
Thank God, even crazy dreams come true.
I stood at the bottom of some walls I thought I couldn't climb
I felt like Cinderella at the ball just running out of time
So I know how it feels to be afraid
And think that it's all gonna slip away
Hold on, hold on
Here's to you free souls, you firefly chasers
Tree climbers, porch swingers, air guitar players
Here's to you fearless dancers, shakin walls in your bedrooms
There's a lot of wonder left inside of me and you
Thank God, even crazy dreams come true
Never let a bad day be enough
To go and talk you into giving up
'Cause sometimes everybody feels like you
Oh, feels like you, just like you
Thank God, even crazy dreams come true
Thank God, even crazy dreams come... true
