As a little girl, all I wanted was to become a princess. I wore dresses, tiaras, and faux glass slippers all the time and, of course, a heaping glop of lip gloss from my mother. As I grew older, my princess aspirations changed to modeling. I was always told I had a beautiful face, so why not me? I soon learned that the world of modeling is wrought with disappointments, and, if you don’t have thick skin, you could easily develop insecurities. I knew that I didn’t have a thick enough skin to withstand that kind of criticism, so I began to explore other talents which eventually turned into a passion and now my career.

The modeling industry, particularly the “super modeling” side of it, in agencies such as Elite and IMG, represents an unattainable nirvana, something only achieved by a very small percentage of girls. Aspiring models are put through a grueling process where their faces and bodies are objectified based upon how well the agency feels they can sell to the public.

You must be exquisite, if not unusual looking, with an appearance that stuns others when they see it. In truth, images seen in fashion magazines, on social media, and on billboards are a superficial template of what beauty is as defined by the top modeling agencies and magazine editors. Supermodel standards set the stage for what young girls desire to become. It’s unrealistic and can lead to anorexia, anxieties, and feelings of inadequacy, where validation of their outer beauty is the only thing standing between acceptance and despair.

As my aptitude for photography developed, I became passionate about showcasing the beauty of individuals, not according to modeling industry standards, but based on the obvious beauty of each distinctive face and every unique look.

My “models” are real people, each with their own beautiful characteristics. My own personal brand of shooting includes a connection with my models, based on trust. I strive to create the “perfect” image with my Nikon d810, 85mm f/1.4 lens, by providing a comfort and confidence to models.

When at ease, their personalities emerge, making my the shoot a true collaboration. My goal is to present women of all shapes and sizes as beautiful; realistic portraits of what beauty actually is and allow young girls and boys the freedom to discover their own significance and magnificence.
