My name is Keaton. I’m 19 years old. And I’m a garage-saler. That’s right. I like buying peoples' old and used things at extremely low prices simply because it’s an amazing experience. You can find some of the most unique items you could ever imagine at garage sales. If you’ve never been, I would highly recommend waking up early one Friday or Saturday morning and searching Craigslist or your local paper for sales in your area.
Enough about why garage sales are life-changing experiences (that wasn’t enough, but I’ll move on for your sake). While garage-saling is quite a rush (or maybe that’s just me), it may require some planning and thinking on your part. Maybe you’re looking for a table and need a bigger car. Maybe you only carry credit cards and need to get some cash. Or maybe you only want to go to sales in certain neighborhoods which requires some planning in advance. To give you an idea of what a typical garage sale experience requires, here’s a day in the life of a garage-saler:
1. (I know that this is the day before but…) gather some cash, make car arrangements if necessary, and determine if there’s something specific that you wish to find.
Maybe you’re in the market for a coffee table or some luggage. Also, be sure to search Craigslist and your local paper (if you can keep your cat off of it) to find all of the best sales for the weekend.
2. (The time has come!) Wake up early and put on your most comfortable clothes.
No one cares about your outfit at garage sales (score!). I prefer to wear my best Skechers.
3. Blare some tunes in your car on the way to the sale.
Note: this is optional but a highly recommended way of getting pumped before your sales.
