It’s been quite a crazy week. Finals have pretty much ended, summer has begun, and Ariana Grande’s new album has just been released. (All of those things totally correlate together, *wink wink*).
Ariana has made quite a name for herself these last couple of years. Her new album "Dangerous Woman" released May 20th and it went to number 1 on the iTunes charts in 67 countries in under 24 hours. To be honest, this is probably the best album she's done so far! I know you're probably thinking, "Great! Another, I love Ariana Grande's new album post." Well let me tell you...that's exactly what this is. But hear me out!
When I first heard Ariana was coming out with a new album I could somewhat predict what to expect. She’s big on showing off her vocals while singing flirty, pop anthem songs, so I figured it would be something like that. When she released singles from the album in advance, including self-title "Dangerous Woman" and "Be Alright", I was excited for the direction the album was going. Those two songs alone felt more edgy than her past songs.
When I listened to the full album last week, I was left in awe. Not only is she awake on the cover of her album, every song have a cohesive flow and rhythm, and I actually enjoyed the R&B album in its entirety. I never actually buy a full album when an artist releases new music in case I don't like all the songs. This time, I actually wanted to buy almost every song because of how great it was! To me, that’s very rare to find an album you can actually enjoy and appreciate every single song.
The songs had similar tempos, melodies, and collaborations with other artists when compared to her previous albums, but Dangerous Woman gives itself its own level. I have always loved Ariana’s music and enjoy whatever she sings, but this album was something that I needed from her but never knew it until I heard it for the first time. She tackles different genres, different sound, and content of her lyrics while at the same time staying true to her powerful voice and upbeat music. Her last two albums, "Yours Truly" and "My Everything", had great songs and fun beats, but have lacked a certain cohesive flow. Each song was great in it’s own way, but listening to "Dangerous Woman" made me realize that cohesiveness was missing from both of them and this shows how far she’s come in the music industry.
Thank you, Ariana, for letting me know it's ok for a princess to be a bad b*tch and for leaving me greedy for more!
