Every year, millions of people sit down and take out their phone or a piece of paper and write out the ways they will make their life better in the coming year. However, we all know that as the year progresses, these things are a lot easier said than done.
1. Working out
The first couple of weeks, you are doing great! You feel great, going to the gym almost every day! Then somehow things keep coming up, and eventually, that $50 gym membership card is not as worth it as you thought.
2. Drink more water
This goes right along with working out, and when you workout you drink a TON of water and feel so refreshed and hydrated!! However, as you workout less, you somehow drink less. Plus, coffee is just as good at making you feel alive, and the internet says there is water in coffee, so you’re fine!
3. Do homework before the day it's due
This definitely works for a little while, but like working out, things seem to keep popping up (like Netflix and naptime) that you just cannot get out of. Oh well.
4. Get sufficient sleep
That homework and those papers are not gonna do themselves, and they are due tomorrow so...
5. Recycle more!
Another good one, but sometimes it’s hard to tell what you can and cannot recycle and then you feel bad making the wrong decision, so, unfortunately, your recycling bin remains much emptier than the trash can.
6. Stop (insert bad habit)
Listen, stopping bad habits is really important. However, how is one supposed to focus on this one little thing when they have all these much more important resolutions to focus on? It is just not realistic.
7. Dress nicer when going to class or work
Okay, maybe not this nice. But still! It’s so fun to look nice and feel nice! Until it gets to February and your fatigue catches up to you. Then your thoughts turn into “Who cares. I definitely don’t care what these people think of me at this point. Plus, if I can get good grades AND be in sweats, what’s the downside?”
8. Less shopping online
Hahahahahahha no.
9. Spend less time online in general
Again, hahahahaha no. There are too many vine compilations and Facebook videos and twitter fights to watch. Plus, being online is the main way you talk to friends and family, so this one rarely seems to work out.
10. Make homecooked meals
YES, you know that making food is a lot cheaper than going out and YES, you know it is a lot more rewarding, but grocery shopping can be the WORST and sometimes you aren't in the mood to cook AND eat AND do the dishes afterward ya know?
11. Eat healthily
This does work for a while! Your dinner plate is full of color and variety, but you slowly realize that you only live once, and you don’t wanna spend it eating things you don’t enjoy. The phrase “treat yourself” becomes a daily thought.
12. Write in a planner
First two months - most organized person ever. Slowly, you begin to use your notes on your phone as a calendar and random sticky notes as reminders and the planner gets lost somewhere in your house.
