Dear Millennials,
We live in such an amazing era. We have endless fountains of knowledge at our fingertips, a tool to connect with people on a global level. This wonderful invention, the cell phone, has evolved to become a crucial part of our everyday lives to the point where we rely on it for directions, work, homework and entertainment.
I believe there is inherent value in technology as it streamlines our lives and provides enrichment. Yet, the ease at which people can develop a toxic connection to their cell phones is cause for concern.
When people are with friends, Snapchats are at times pivotal to the conversation. "Is this story worthy?" or "What filter should I use?" are common questions heard while friends hang out.
People are tempted to check their texts and email, even at bad times. It's not uncommon for drivers to look at their screens while on the road.
That's why I'd like to challenge readers to spend one day, one twenty-four hour period without their phones. It's hard- I'm guilty of cheating to make sure no one tried to contact me with important information (aaaand to keep up streaks). But, it's never-the-less doable.
If you partake in this challenge, please list three moments you might've missed if you had been looking at a screen instead. My three things were simple (seeing a butterfly, taking a long walk with my dog, etc.) but it's in these simple moments we feel truly alive.
