I am 19 years old and I have been to 20 different countries all thanks to cruising.
Crazy right! The love I have for traveling was instilled in me at a young age. Family vacations were and still are very important to my family. Whether it be a weekend getaway to the mountains or a 10-day cruise in the Caribbean, the Durham’s had their bags packed and were there. Because of traveling I have been lucky enough to see some really breath-taking places. Each new place I go, God’s creations and their beauty continue to amaze me.
My love for traveling really blossomed when I was in the 7th grade. My family and I set sail on the Carnival Conquest, and never looked back; eleven cruises later and I still get as excited and giddy as I did for the first one. In fact, I am already thinking of outfits to pack for the next cruise I go on (which is in 39 days, but who's counting).
Cruising is my favorite form of vacationing because it forces you to disconnect from the world and really be in the moment. Sure, you can buy the wifi on the ship, but take it from me it is awful and NOT worth the money! I like the idea of how disconnected you have to be. At first, the idea of not having my phone was enough to put me in cardiac arrest, but now it is something I look forward to. I am the first to admit I spend way too much time on my phone so being without it for seven to eight days is such a refreshing feeling.
Another reason I love cruising is the people you meet on the ship. Whether it be the crew or other families, I am convinced you will not meet nicer people! Through cruising I have met some truly incredible people that I still care about long after the vacation has ended. Cruising is spectacular because it introduces you to people you would have never met otherwise, and with social media staying connected, despite hundreds of miles apart, has never been easier.
Through cruising I have been able to travel to so many different places and experience so many different cultures, and that is something I will always be grateful for.
