Finding all sorts of interesting articles on your social media from Odyssey? Are you filled with strong opinions and have a passion to speak your mind? Interested in writing for a Newspaper one day or going into Journalism? Here's why you should join Odyssey!

1. Great for a resume

Odyssey is a great opportunity to build up your resume. Becuase you constantly write articles that get published and shared online weekly, you can easily show your interviewer and companies your portfolio of work! The Odyssey managers and EICs can also write you amazing letters of recommendation if you simply ask if needed for a job as well.

2. It's like having job

Here at Odyssey, though you get to write about anything you want, it's like having a job and should be treated like one as well. You have an EIC, strict deadlines, and formatting rules as well with every article. You have to go through an application process and an interview process as well. Group meetings are often held throughout the year, and if you were to choose to stop writing for Odyssey, you have to put in your two weeks. It's a great opportunity to get a feel of what writing for a newspaper would be like, or any other media-based job. Plus it's super fun!

3. Creativity is allowed

Unlike some writing jobs where you are given a topic to write about, Odyssey allows you to write about anything! Poems, listicles, how-tos, videos, sports, school, etc. Serious topics and funny topics are allowed. Here creativity is recommended. So if you see yourself writing poems weekly, or having amazing video ideas and creations, Odyssey is perfect for you.

4. Use you voice

Do you find yourself laying in bed at night overloaded with political opinions? Do you find yourself constantly giving step by step advice on how to do something? Do you find yourself just wanting to type a huge Facebook post to bring awareness to a certain topic? Then Odyssey is for you! You have the freedom to write anything you want, you get to use your voice and bring awareness, share your opinion, and even make people smile! So save that Facebook post you were going to write about and apply for Odyssey and share your voice here.

5. The people

Your EIC, managers, and fellow writers are all amazing people. At Odyssey, not only do you get to write for yourself, you get to write next to a strong group of people. The group chats are filled with random topics to make you smile on a rough day. If you ever experience writer's block, there's a strong chance a fellow writer on the team is going through the same thing. Your EIC is always there to help you if you need anything. It's a great support group that is there for you inside Odyssey and outside Odyssey, making it an amazing community.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
