5 Ways College Is WAY Better Than High School

People say high school is the best four years of your life, but I disagree.

I will never EVER understand why people say they miss high school. Sure, I miss some friends and some teachers, but overall high school wasn’t that great. I wasn’t a fan, and couldn’t wait to get out of there. Now that I’m in college, I am SO much happier.

College is the absolute best and here are some reasons why:

1. FREEDOM

You get (some) freedom in high school, but not nearly as much as college. You don't have a seven-hour school day anymore. I have two to three classes a day and can schedule them for whenever I want! After I have class, I can do whatever I want. I can stay on campus to study, go get lunch, or go home and take a nap. The freedom is amazing!

2. Chill People

In college, everyone is struggling with school. No one cares what you are wearing or who you hang out with. It seems like everyone is more “chill” in college. I feel like I can be myself in college.

3. Living by yourself

I love you family and I miss you always, but there is something about being on your own. Yes, it can get lonely. Yes, I miss my family. Living by yourself is so freeing. Being able to choose to eat whatever (and whenever) you want is awesome. I can go to bed whenever I want and I can be as messy as I want.

4. Being treated like an adult

This might be the best one. College students are adults, and we are treated as them! You don’t have to ask to go to the bathroom during class. You don’t even have to stay in class if you don’t want to. Professors know that it’s the students’ choice to be there, so they don’t care if you stay or go. I’m not sure why you have to ask to go to the bathroom during class in high school, but that’s just not right.

5. There’s always something going on

It seems like there’s always an even going on. Whether it’s a party, karaoke in the cafeteria or whatever, there’s always something. If you’re bored in college, that’s your own fault. You just have to be able to step out of your comfort zone and go out there!

In the end, college is an awesome time to figure out who you are, make new friends, and learn of course. Be yourself and go out of your comfort zone sometimes. And of course, remember to study!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
