Everyone hears that your 20s are and will be the best years of your life. They are filled with exciting birthdays, the potential to build your career, and even start a family. I have just entered into my 20s but have been thinking about ways to truly make them my best years. Here are some tips to enjoy them to the fullest!

1. Don't rush through them.

It is so easy to look forward to the next thing ahead. For example, I keep waiting for my 21st birthday, or to finally graduate college. I think we need to slow down and enjoy the moment while we are in it because before we know it, these years will be long gone.

2. Work on yourself, for yourself.

While we are still young, we should focus on making ourselves the best version as we head into the future. Whether that may be: fueling your body with the proper nutrition/workouts, reminding yourself what you are grateful for every day, or simply just trying to be a more positive you can help make the future better!

3. Save your money...

I know it may be fun to go out to dinner every night with friends rather than cooking in, but you will thank yourself later when you save that extra $100 a month. Your college debt will thank you as well.

4. But know when to splurge.

You've probably been working hard this summer or got really good grades last semester and want to treat yourself. That is totally okay too!

5. Spend time with your family.

Your parents are getting older and so are you. Don't forget to call and visit them as much as you can. They love hearing from you and will love the company. Don't miss out on quality family time before it's too late!

6. Get rid of the negative people in your life.

Some friends won't last forever and that's okay. It is important to get rid of the negative people in order to be the best you. It might be hard or uncomfortable to ditch the bad friends but trust me, it'll be so cleansing for the soul.

7. Get out there.

If your friends ask you to go out and do something, always go. You have to work in the morning? You don't feel like leaving your spot on the couch? Just do it. In 10 years, you will remember the fun memories, not the times you spent a Friday night watching Netflix alone.

8. Don't get too hung up on boys.

Now that you are getting a bit older, you are probably thinking about who you're going to spend your life with. Most people have these plans of when they want to get married or have children but don't sweat it. It will happen when it is supposed to happen and with the right person too.

9. Don't gossip.

High school was all about the gossip and drama. Don't be stuck in high school. Talking about others can only lead to trouble and won't do anything good for yourself.

10. Get a dog (or cat if that's more your thing.)

It's okay to go crazy sometimes and have a fun night out with friends. It can lead to some great memories with even better friends!

14. Live alone at least once.

Living alone can help you figure out what you want. College is all about friends and fun, but once you settle into your career, living alone can and should be a positive thing.

15. Don't take things so personally...

Whether your boss makes a rude comment or a friend treats you poorly, don't get too beat up. Sometimes, people say things out of frustration that they truly don't mean. No sense in getting too upset about it!

16. But know when to stand up for yourself.

Don't let others walk all over you! Stand up for yourself when necessary and it'll make you feel so much better in the long run.

17. Travel. A lot.

You're only young once, so take this time to travel the world. Money may be an issue but in 20 years when you're super rich, you'll be so happy you took the time to see the world while you still could. ;)

18. Truly do what you love.

You have been going to college for 4+ years, so your career should reflect what you truly love. You didn't get all of that college debt to end up doing something you dread every single day. Even if you need to test out a few different avenues, you'll finally find something that clicks.

19. Reach out to others.

Scared to contact that cute boy from class? Don't want to be the first to text someone to hangout? Go for it. The worst they can do is say no, and you may gain something really special out of it.

20. Enjoy them.

These years can truly be the best years yet! Don't forget to enjoy them while you can.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
