11 Creative (And Fun) Activities to Do With Your Friends on a Weekend

As we grow older, it gets harder and harder to find fun activities to do with friends. Sure, you can go to the bar again, but haven't you done that one too many times this month?

It's possible to get out there and actually enjoy your weekend without feeling hungover. It's a crazy idea, but it's true.

We're going to suggest a few new things to do with your friends. Keep an open mind, take some notes, and hopefully, you'll have enough ideas to last you for the next month or two.

Let's get started:

Fun Things to Do With Your Friends

If you're feeling bored with the way your friend group hangs out, chances are you'll need to step out of your comfort zone a little bit. Either that or you're going to have to spearhead the planning end of things.

All too often, friend groups make grand plans but no one takes the initiative to actually organize them. People usually want to get out and try new things but most forget or don't have the energy to make anything happen. The planning responsibility might have to fall upon you.

Throw out some of the following ideas to your friends and see if you can round up the team for some weekend fun.

1. State Fairs and Festivals

Look around your area and you're bound to find a festival, big or small, this weekend. No matter the time of year, most areas have all sorts of gatherings that would be fun excursions for a friend group.

Even if you're not into the idea of, say, a foreign foods festival, you might enjoy going someplace and taking in the atmosphere together. Festivals are cheap, fun, and they don't require a lot of planning.

2. Go Hiking

Instead of burying your sorrows at a pub, why not hit the road and take a long hike? Find a trail that's in line with your skill level, put on some good shoes, and get out there for some exercise, dangit.

Who's to say you and your pals can't be active? If some people don't want to join, that's on them. Keep in mind that it's hard to find someone who's mad after exercising, especially doing it with friends.

3. Cook a Meal

Plan out a nice meal to make with your friends. You guys can all pick up ingredients, find the one with the biggest kitchen, and have at it.

It's generally a good idea to work together on a project that you can all enjoy after completion. Cooking is a perfect example of this. Plus, if your whole squad frequents the bar too often, it's likely that you're all in need of a well-cooked meal.

4. Escape Room

Escape rooms are an excellent way to work with your friends in a completely unique way. An escape room provides an opportunity to problem solve, work together, and have an incredible time.

There are different themes you can go with, different skill levels to explore, and endless opportunities to make memories. Give it a shot.

5. Go Camping

Going camping is one of those things that friend groups talk about all of the time but never do. Take it upon yourself to find a campsite, round up gear, and take the trip.

You're bound to have a friend or two that wants to go out into nature with a couple of close pals. Sure, your whole group probably won't commit, but what's better than spending some quality time with one or two friends?

Make sure you take time to find the appropriate supplies and camping knowledge, though, because camping can get dangerous if you don't prepare well.

6. Road Trip

Weekend road trips are totally achievable, enjoyable things to do with friends. The downfall of most trips is that you're stuck with people for too long and their company goes a little sour.

One person smells bad, the other is talking too much, and you gravitate toward the other people who are as frustrated as you are. You don't want to be that friend!

Ensure you all have a great time by making the trip short and staying in a town an hour or two away from where you live. You won't regret it.

7. Concerts

Think about the amount of money you and your friends spend at the bar each weekend. A round here, a pitcher there, a few shots, and BOOM. You've all spent 200 dollars.

Why not put that money toward seeing a musician you really love and spending the night in the city they're playing in? Making memories in this way is totally possible if you rearrange your weekend budget.

8. Play a Sport

We're not suggesting that you have to join a league or anything. Just round up the crew and see if everyone's game for a little kickball or something.

Maybe your friends are all athletic and you want to pay a game of football. You could also set up a ping pong tournament or wiffleball round-robin event.

All we're saying is that it's hard to have a bad time when you're playing a light-hearted game of kickball.

9. Binge a Series

If the weather's too terrible to make a trip, hunker down into your couch and binge-watch a series or string of movies.

You could certainly make a weekend of all the Harry Potter movies. You'd be surprised at how many people have never seen your favorite movies or shows, and you can enjoy the privilege of exposing them to some great cinema.

10. Volunteer

Why not use your collective strength to do some good for those in need? Organizations always need capable volunteers to do help out.

Additionally, a lot of places accept large groups of volunteers and will plan accordingly with the use of your help. For whatever reason, some people feel more comfortable volunteering in groups as opposed to being alone.

This can be a good opportunity for some of your introverted friends to branch out.

11. Hit the Beach

We've got to end our list with the most classic friendship activity of all time.

If it's hot, everyone will be interested in going. Who doesn't love to lay on the beach with their closest friends? It's always a great time.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating.
