10 Things You'll Look Forward To Over Winter Break

‘Tis the season! After a hell of a long semester, the “most wonderful time of the year” is finally upon us. It’s finally time to ditch the books and head home for a much needed break. As college students, we’re pretty excited for obvious reasons.

Here are 10 things that college students look forward to over winter break:

1. Spending time with your family. What are the holidays without family? Winter break brings everyone back together in one place, and there’s nothing better than that.

2. Seeing your friends from home. It’s always nice to catch up with your friends from home over the extended break. You don’t always see each other, but when you do, it’s like you were never even apart.

3. The food. Can you say home cooked meals? Forget fending for yourself or eating at the dining hall-- winter break means mom will be cooking up a storm and making all of your favorite dishes. Clutch.

4. Sleeping in... AND sleeping in your own bed. Winter break = very limited responsibilities, which is essentially every college student’s dream. Being home also allows you to be reunited with your OWN bed, not your subpar one at school. The combination of the two is deadly, but much needed.

5. No homework or studying. The semester is officially over, which means there’s no schoolwork that you could even potentially be working on. No need to feel guilty about doing nothing, because it’s time to relax. Enjoy it while it lasts.

6. Your pets. One of the hardest parts about going away to college is leaving your pets behind. The good news is that winter break is usually a longer than just one week, so you’ll have plenty of time to spend together. Oh and expect all of your friends’ Snapchat stories to be of their furry friends, too.

7. Binge watching Netflix. Winter break is the perfect time to catch up on all of the shows you’ve missed throughout your semester away at college. Netflix is there for you, and Netflix understands. Plus, it’s not like your hometown is all that exciting anyway, so you’ll have plenty of downtime to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show(s).

8. The holidays themselves. No matter which holidays you celebrate, you’re never too old to get excited about them. The holiday spirit just isn’t the same at school, but at home the decorations and cheeriness really gets everyone in the holiday mood.

9. Hitting up all of your hometown "spots." Every hometown has it's unique places that everyone goes to, whether it be certain restaurants, malls, movie theaters, or other attractions. Winter break is the perfect time to hit em' all up again, and run into a bunch of people you haven't seen in a while. It's a win-win.

10. New Year’s Eve. Even though it’s towards the end of winter break, New Year’s Eve never fails to impress. Whether you’re having a crazy night out on the town, heading to NYC, or just watching the ball drop in the comfort of your own home, it’s always a good time.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.
