Fans of "The Walking Dead" have been glued to the edge of their seats since episodes three through five of season six, trying to figure out whether or not Glenn is still alive. While AMC is purposely distracting us, we are missing essential clues that reveal a lot about Carl's new love interest: Enid.
Coming and Going
Enid is constantly going over the wall, which means she isn't satisfied with Alexandria. She "doesn't want to forget" what it's like out there.
Let's not forget that the first time he follows her over the wall, he loses track. Where could she have possibly gone?
"It's their world, we're just living in it."
In the episode "Try," Enid tells Carl what she really feels, as they hide in a tree trunk (from walkers).
Enid doesn't seem to have much faith in the community that accepted her; in season six, episode two: JSS, Enid tells Carl that Alexandria is too big to protect.
"They're just people."
In the beginning of this scene, she is fumbling with keys to get into Carl's house. Why does she have them and why isn't she concerned with getting to safety?
She isn't phased by The Wolves. There is a reason she isn't scared of them and it isn't angst.
"This place is to big to protect. There are too many blind spots. That's how we were able to--"
"Just survive somehow."
Enid's repetition of this phrase--marking it on the ground, on her hand, and in the note she leaves for Carl--gives the impression that this was something that was drilled into her mind. Let's see...who else has this idea? To stay alive no matter what?
Enid does not seem to be in the same mindset, but as any other plot twist in TWD, it's complicated.
Theory
In the beginning of this episode, we learn about her life pre-Alexandria.Her parents are attacked by a herd of walkers while trying to jump-start their car. It is possible she had a run-in with The Wolves around this time. Could premeditated plans be the reason she was hesitant to approach the gate?
Dropping Hints
In TV shows, movies, etc., everything that is shown, has reason. Why develop a character, name it after their slogan, all in the same episode as the attack on Alexandria? Enid is connected with The Wolves.
Rewind
Look at the back cover of Enid's comic book, which Carl finds in his attic when the gang first arrives at Alexandria.
Very sneaky, AMC. Well done. If Enid joined The Wolves before moving into Alexandria, it could be her reason for keeping both Ron and Carl at bay. It explains why she leaves Alexandria on the same day, and why she admits in an earlier episode, that she's afraid of Carl. Enid does not want to ruin The Wolves' plan, and/or she doesn't want to develop feelings that could make her regret her choices.
We know that The Wolves found Eric's bag with the pictures of Alexandria, but did Enid draw them a map and tell them when the strongest of their town would be gone?
Enid should be asked the three questions.
