Ithaca is a small, beautiful town found in the center region of New York; it is most known for being found at the base of Lake Cayuga, one of the Finger Lakes, the wine tours, and the home of numerous waterfalls. But did you know that one of the absolute truly talented new bands making waves in the music industry originated from Ithaca?
You may have heard their song Jungle in the background of the trailer to Pitch Perfect 2 or the song Unsteady is mostly related to the movie You & Me - or there is a Jeep commercial that promotes the Jeep Renegade that uses the song Renegades for background, too. Either way, X Ambassadors have been busy. The band released an EP entitled Love Songs Drug Songs in 2013 which houses my all time favorite song of their Down With Me. The vocals that Sam Harris, the lead singer and frontman for the band, is able to give on the song - or any song for that matter - will blow your mind. I have tried multiple times to sing along with him alone in my car without a care in the world and I run out of breath trying to attempt to either hit the notes or hold them as he does. Not to mention that the actual music that is played is amazing; it is so hard to try to not sway your hips while listening to the music (the video that is not shown, that should be, is Sam dancing to his own music - boy does he get into it). The video I have chosen to post here is so long because the way the band introduced the song "Gorgeous" cannot be expressed through just words. the pianist, Casey Harris (Sam's brother) has been blind since birth and you would've never known when his fingers were on the keyboard. Their first album, VH1, (which houses my second favorite song and the song in the video, Gorgeous) was released in June 2015 and the band went on a world tour with the final stop of the tour being, well, you guessed it: Ithaca.
My friends and I were really lucky to be able to see the band play live. We may not be from Ithaca, just go to school here, but being able to hear the pride and joy coming from the stage and pouring through the theatre was indescribable - I felt like I had lived in Ithaca for years and was so proud of the boys' homecoming. I didn't want to post the videos from that night because I wanted to save you all from my singing so the video that is shown here is the one from when the band preformed at the New York State fair - because you know my friends and I just had to go.
I needed to share this article because I wanted to be able to share the band that was amazing on record and even better live with the people who may not have heard of them before or thought of looking into them. I highly recommend listening to X Ambassadors for when you are happy, sad, mad, or just need to break the silence. I cannot wait for what the band does next.
