In every culture, there are the basic dos and don't's that everyone knows to abide by, and anyone who plans to live there will eventually learn. In the south, we love sports, food, and Jesus, so many of our rules tend to revolve around those three things, especially since they are all taken very seriously.

While younger southerners do sometimes tend to differ from our grandparents who are more old-school southerners, we can all definitely agree on most, if not all, of these 15 life rules.

In any given year, football budgets for athletic departments in the Southeastern Conference range anywhere from 30 to over 100 million dollars. This money is used to pay coaches and cover expenses incurred by the school's football team. However, even after salaries are paid and expenses are covered, schools are usually left with millions of dollars in profit. The athletes who ultimately create this situation by participating in collegiate sports are left with nothing at the end of the season except some new Nike clothes they were given throughout the year and the promise of a free college education.

Take a drive down any interstate in Southeastern Conference country and college fans will quickly begin to stand out because of the stickers and magnets on their cars. Head inside a store or restaurant and team logos on shirts, hats, and almost everything else will become visible. SEC fans are arguably the most passionate fans in the country, which is the main reason college football trumps professional football, at least in this region of the United States.

These are the rules we were taught at a very young age.

Tea is always iced and ALWAYS sweet.

We always say "Yes sir" and "Yes ma'am" and it makes us extremely uncomfortable if you tell us not to.

Okra and green tomatoes are always fried.

If you're in any southern state, it's a buggy, not a shopping cart.

It's also "soda" or "coke" never "pop."

We know that not all southern accents are the same, and you know you're a true southerner when you can tell the difference.

Always respect your elders.

Barbecues are acceptable year-round.

We LOVE front porches, but wrap around porches are holy-grail of porches.

Sassy southern women are a force to be reckond with.

You only need one or two heavy coats since it will rarely get cold enough for you to actually use them.

But you can never own to many nike shorts for the many warm days throughout the year.

It is totally acceptable and pretty much expected for you to care more about college football rather than proffessional.

Also, if you aren't rooting for an SEC team, what are you even doing?

If there is one thing that all southerners can bond over, it's the fact that we're southerns.

Are you really southern if you don't like BBQ?

You get the death stare if you don't say "yes ma'am or no sir"

You pull over on the highway when you see a funeral procession

Unsweet tea is for the Northern Folk

You can tell when someone "ain't from around here"

Tornado warnings mean go outside and look for a funnel cloud. (but really. get to shelter)

Weddings are scheduled around football

Shorts and flip flops are the go to summer outfit (sometimes you can wear them in December!)

You say "thank you" when someone holds the door for you

And if you don't say "thank you", we will holler out "you're welcome"

Calling someone during a bowl game (Iron Bowl) is a sin

If you don't say "excuse me" we will holler "well excuse you"

Cornbread is a part of every meal

There is some sort of farm animal in your yard if they figure out how to escape

Almost every food is fried

When we realized he was the "bad boy" of the show

When he took Matt shooting when he was down

...And then didn't say anything when Coach Taylor thought he was taking advantage of Julie when he was trying to get her into her bed

When he protected Julie during a tornado

How he never gave up on Lyla

Every single time he smiled

When he took Becky pageant dress shopping because her mom bailed

When we heard how Coach Taylor and Buddy spoke about him

How close he got to Jackie's son, Bo

When he found out those closest to him made him a highlight reel

Every time he kissed Lyla

When he day drank

When he drove around in his truck

When he smirked

When he quizzed the team on football plays

When he volunteer coached the East Dillion Lions with Coach Taylor

When he took the blame and went to prison so Billy could be a present father

When he wouldn't let Lyla give up on going to Vanderbilt just to stay in Texas with him

When he went to New York with Jason because he wanted to land a sport agent job

When he helped Tami Taylor with things around the house when he was staying at the Taylor's

How excited he was when he got into college

His undeniable love for Jason

When he apologized to the entire team

When he was always there for Becky
