The F***boy And The Slut
It's about time for double standards to be addressed.
When you come to college, there are a lot of terms that start to get thrown around frequently, carelessly, and unnecessarily. Two of the main terms that we encounter almost daily are the "f***boy" and the "slut." You hear about how a certain guy did this girl last night and how some other girl hooked up with another guy. Honestly, why does that matter? Who cares about what people's “numbers” are. It’s 2016, so it's time to emerge from the Dark Ages.
There has always been a double standard about the number of girls a guy sleeps with and the number of guys who a girl sleeps with. Now, with the constant need for co-dependence, the double standard has gotten worse.
The word "f***boy" is a relatively new term. For those of you who don’t know, it’s used to describe a guy who just doesn’t give a s*** about any girl. They are the guys who you get drunk with one night and think, “He’s hot, let’s see where this goes.” Five shots in and three hours later, you end up going home with him. These are the guys who offer you an Uber home after you're done hooking up. They are also the guys who say that they’ll call you tomorrow and who never do. These boys are the ones who get congratulated by all their friends the morning after and who show their friends all the texts that you sent him. When they see you out a day or two later, they then give you the head nod and act like they don’t know what you look like naked.
When it comes to the sluts of college, girls can’t play by the same rules. When a girl sleeps with more than a handful of guys, she isn’t congratulated. Instead, she’s judged. When a girl offers a guy an Uber home after a hookup it isn’t because she’s considerate, it’s because she has no heart. If the girl never texts you back, she isn’t viewed as cool, people just think that she’s too into herself. Let's not forget that morning after walk of shame. Nobody is high-fiving her. Instead, everyone is glaring at her.
How can it be that two people can be viewed so differently, even though they both want the same things: to avoid attachment and involvement the morning after. Is it because it’s become more “normal” for guys to use girls? Or is it because women are supposed to be more helpless when compared to men? Either way, the jig is up. Us girls are so over the judgment, the stares, and the bulls***. If we want to have sex with someone, we will. If we want to leave afterwards, we will. If we never want to talk to you again, don’t hold your breath for that morning text. After years of guys being the ones who were able to enjoy hookups as meaningless, girls are starting to get the hang of things and, honestly, we like it better this way.
