1. Listen to what children are telling you!

Too many times through out the show the Baudelaire children encounter Count Olaf in one of his many disguises. When the children try to inform the closest adult, the adult does not believe them. Because disguised Olaf is granted more credibility for merely being an adult.
This even scared me as a child watching the 2004 movie starring Jim Carrey as Count Olaf. I always wondered why the adults wouldn't listen to the kids, which at the time Violet and Klaus were older than me. I also wondered if I ever encountered such a drastic situation, what adult would trust and BELIEVE me should something bad ever happen.
Please listen to children when they confide in you. Create a trusting environment where they feel comfortable to talk to you.
2. Children are smarter than what you think!

While the "average" young adult and/or child would not encounter these types of situations, children are a lot smarter than what we give them credit for. While most kids also don't have a photographic memory similar to Klaus, the Baudelaires seem to get themselves out of every hardship faced, to be smacked with the next unlucky event.
I think this really exemplifies how much young adults and children do understand the world and what adults are telling them. They don't need to be talked down upon to understand what the adults are saying. When provided opportunities, kids can really think outside of the box. Not to mention these specific kids had educated and wealthy parents to give their children a good education.
Always nurture and support developing young adults and kids, they need it.
3. Social workers are NOT bad people.

While Mr. Poe is a banker in the stories, he is acting as the children's social worker. He is trying his best to find the children a good home. Poe is also guilty like the other adults for not listening to the children when they try to tell him that Olaf is after them. However, as soon as he discovers the truth, that it is Count Olaf, he defends the children and tries to relocate them to what he believes is a safer place.
This does not of course include Mr. Poe's behavior in the "Vile Village" where he supports the town's decisions to punish the Baudelaires by being burned at the stake. These two episodes of the "Vile Village" change Violet, Klaus, and Sunny's reputation into criminals. Now instead of being pushed from location to location to meet their new families, they are now on the run and undercover at different points like so many other characters. With these two episodes, Mr. Poe is no longer acting as the children's social worker.

1. Severe loss of habitat.
This delicate fellow deserves a home as much as anyone.
GiphyPerhaps the most obvious effect of hurricanes is the destruction they can have on the habitats of all species. The homes of people are often extremely damaged or destroyed. The high winds, rain, and flooding can cause trees to come down, both taking away the tree as a source of habitat and causing the fallen trees to crush and destroy habitats found below on the ground. This severe weather is also damaging to the delicate life systems found on the seashore and in sand dunes.
2. Winds push saltwater closer and on to the shores.
No one wants to see this delightful gentleman overwhelmed by an influx of salty water.
GiphyThe massive winds of hurricanes cause huge amounts of ocean water to surge onto the shore. These gargantuan surges of ocean water can travel to as much as 30 feet above the normal high tide. Most of the land-dwelling critters living near or at the edge of the water will not survive this shock. Creatures like crabs, grasses, insects, and minnows are not accustomed to such high salt levels and will die from the overabundance of both salt and water.
3. High winds can blow migrating birds off course.

GiphyWith hurricanes, there is always an aggressive onslaught of high wind. These destructive winds do not only destroy the homes and buildings of humans, but they also work to blow migratory seabirds off of their treks to their new homes for the season. Many of the birds become weakened and injured, and a lot of them do not survive. The migratory locations the birds head to for the year become altered without as many of the birds making it as usual.
4. Huge waves caused by the hurricanes can eradicate large populations of sea creatures.
With hurricanes comes an ocean of ghosts.
GiphyWhen hurricane Andrew struck Louisiana in 1992 over 9 million fish were found offshore dead from these violent waves. With the destruction of so many fish caused by these super storms comes an alteration in the marine ecosystems found underneath the waves. Wherever these fish may have fallen in terms of the food web, such a decrease in them would have resulted in a subsequent decrease of the populations of their predators and an influx of the populations of their prey.
5. The strong winds will work well to disperse the seeds of some plants.
After the raging storm comes a lovely influx of blooming orchids.
GiphyAlthough hurricanes are holistically seen as devastatingly negative, some species actually can derive benefit from hurricanes. Orchids benefit from hurricanes in that their seeds are dispersed to a far wider range than usual from the high-speed winds.
6. Scavenging species will have an increase in food.
This pensive fellow will be more than happy to feast on the numerous waterlogged bodies of fish lining the shore after the hurricane.
GiphyScavenger species like vultures and raccoons are extremely adept at surviving in damaging situations such as hurricanes or tornados because they will eat decaying animal and plant matter. They do well after hurricanes since so many other species die, leaving them with an abundance of food. However, this is not necessarily positive, because although they are doing well, many other unique and endangered species will not be doing so well. With fewer types of species left in the world, there will be a lower overall species biodiversity and less genetic material left for evolution.
7. Flooding can cause freshwater lakes and rivers to overflow.
All of the sediments and materials making the water an unsuitable place for species to live.
GiphyThe heavy rainfall of hurricanes can often cause flooding. This flooding can result in species and habitats being washed out of freshwater lakes and rivers, resulting in numerous species deaths. Habitats can also be altered in the lakes and rivers because the rainwater can carry in sediments and pollutants, changing the makeup and consistency of the water.
8. Coral reefs can be severely harmed or destroyed.
The beautiful and diverse species contained in coral reefs.
GiphyThe strong waves and winds coming from hurricanes can wipe out coral reefs by physically destroying them, but corals are also affected less conspicuously by the floods of rain. These rains can carry pollutants and acid that can bleach corals or prevent them from growing. This is significant because corals take years to regrow, and they harbor lots of very important species diversity.
No matter what happens in the coming days and weeks with hurricane Florence, species are likely to be harmed. It is important for people after the storm to not only treat each other with kindness and sympathy but to also treat any affected species and habitats the same way. It is important to realize how these species are going to be impacted so that people can work to help them recover and flourish after the storm.

2. People who are late without giving a reason
If you're late without explanation, explain when you get there. Or don't be late, simple as that.
3. People who drag their feet when walking
Just. Pick up your feet. Please. Your shoes will thank you.
4. Not covering your mouth when you cough
You have SO MANY germs that the world would be better without. Just keep your germs to yourself, no one wants them.
5. People who steal food off your plate without asking
Just ask. Please, for the love of all things good in the world, be courteous.
6. Saying literally when it’s not literal
This one's okay once in a while, but if you're doing this on the daily? You've gotta go, this isn't gonna work out.
7. Saying no offense when it’s clearly offensive
Saying no offense doesn't play down the offensiveness, trust me.
8. Clapping when the airplane lands
The pilots can't hear you, just be like everyone else and say thank you when you leave the plane.
9. Walking in a row that takes over the entire sidewalk
Pick a buddy and walk with them! You don't have to all walk together!
10. Nail biters
Gross AND dangerous, a rare double whammy.
11. Claiming that you’re bad at names when you’ve met a person three times
Sure, you can be bad at names, but after three times, you've just made a conscious effort to not remember this person.
12. Talking over someone when they’re in the middle of a sentence
It's fine to wait until someone else is done speaking so you can have your turn, but for the love of God, be subtle about it.
13. Not using the blinker
The road has RULES.
14. Not cleaning your hairbrush
Again with the messiness, please just keep it clean. Who are you hurting?
