Looking For My Roommates Through Social Media Was One Of My Best Decisions In College
I knew that random assignment for roommates was a no from me dawg.
Right after getting all of my admission decisions from every school I needed to hear back from, I had to make the ultimate decision of where I would end up finishing up my Bachelor's degree.
I ended up choosing UCLA although it was my ultimate top choice since prior to getting accepted.
I joined a bunch of pages relating to UCLA and UCLA transfers on both Facebook and Instagram. There was this one page created specifically to the transfer class that I was accepted into and noticed people made posts looking for roommates.
So I took the same chance to look for roommates and posted about myself and that I was looking for girls to live within the dorms for the upcoming school year.
One girl, named Grethel, commented on my post and we began talking more and both ultimately decided to choose one another as roommates. Grethel and I decided that we were just gonna rely on random assignment for our third roommate.
Then I checked on my filtered messages hiding in my Facebook messenger and I had two girls who were also interested in rooming with me and I had to reply to just one since I already had one roommate picked out. So I talked things with Grethel and asked her if it was cool to find that third roommate and she said yes. So I messaged back the first one who messaged me and then that girl, named Andrea, became the third roommate we needed.
Although this was random in a sense, we got to know each other prior to the meeting and living with one another and it was nice since we got a sense of how we would live with one another instead of wondering who would we live with and how it would be. We were pretty much an open book with one another so I knew that we highly valued communication and it would be a good thing to be living with them.
I have heard a lot of roommate horror stories from people who were randomly assigned their roommates which is why I chose to actively look for the people I would live with for a whole school year to make sure I wouldn't have that issue. I got extremely lucky with both Andrea and Grethel and I'm glad I messaged them specifically.
Although I will not be living with either of them for the next school year as I will be living in my sorority's house and they will be rooming in an apartment, there is no doubt I will be hanging out with them and bothering them at their apartment.
They both made my time in the dorms so special and memorable.
We have cried to one another, laughed together, vented to one another, and even held each other's hair up when we drank a little too much and created amazing memories all thanks to my Facebook post.
