With 'All That We Destroy,' Hulu Proves 'Into The Dark' Is Just Getting Started
This anthology just keeps getting better and better.
Recently, I wrote about an anthology that Hulu released called "Into The Dark." It's a year-long monthly releasing, holiday-themed anthology of horror films by the people who brought "Happy Death Day," "The Conjuring," and "Sinister."
May's installment was Mother's Day themed and called "All That We Destroy." I've been seeing the commercials for a while and it looked absolutely terrifying. You can watch the trailer here.
In a Black Mirror-type future, Spencer lives with his mom who is a revolutionary geneticist. She'd developed a method to clone organs and save lives and is praised by the medical community for that. However, what she hasn't told anyone yet is that she's also discovered the ability to clone humans.
Spencer faces some unique challenges and in an effort to help him, his mother makes clones of a girl he met until she's perfect. While his mother works on perfecting the girl, Spencer meets a new girl that's moved into the neighborhood and become enamored with her. Meanwhile, Ashley, the girl his mother has been working on, is starting to regain her memory and figure out how she ended up with this family. All of these things come to a terrifying head to lead to a bone-chilling ending.
The addition of the futuristic technology was beyond interesting. It added a new element to the scare because I could never tell how that technology (or the lack of it) was going to work to impact the story. As the mom was learning how to manipulate it herself, it was manipulating her.
I am so excited to see the next installment, a Father's Day-themed episode called "They Come Knocking." This anthology is truly one of a kind and keeps rolling out films that are each better than the next. Blumhouse has really outdone themselves. I have no idea how they'll top each episode.
