Stages Of Sickness In College

Being in college is great -- you get the freedom you want and have fun times with the best friends you constantly hang out with. But all of that comes to a close with the start of one sneeze that you hear across the room. Don't get me wrong, but being sick in college is possibly the worst thing that can ever happen to you, asides from failing or withdrawing from the class that you absolutely hate. Winter is over and spring is in the air. The flowers bloom, the plants start to pollinate, and the germs -- well, they begin to spread. Being in college is great and all, but when sickness rolls around, that changes the whole experience.

1. You mind your own business and start to have a great time with your friends.

You are ahead of your schedule. You are on your game. Everyone around you parties just like you and your party-mode just doesn't have an off button.

2. The Sneeze Heard Around the Lecture.

Next day in lecture, everything is great until you hear that one person sneezing. Beware, it's the start of a plague.

3. You are starting to show some symptoms -- but you figure out you're fine.

There could be a chance that the germs from that one person could've traveled through the air and out of nowhere, but the sneeze particles decide to choose you as your next victim. But you care less, because a few sniffles can't be as bad.

4. A few hours later, you realize that you are really sick and pretty sure things will get even worse from there. But you still decide to ignore it anyway.

5. You try to take some early medication, but you realize at this point, it's too late.

6. Very soon later that night, everything gets worse and you realize that there is no going back.

And your roommate will be covering themselves from head to toe so that they don't catch your germs.

7. At this point, you've given up and you decide to endure it.

You decide to call your mom, because taking care of yourself when you're sick is something you probably haven't done and you need desperate help.

8. The next day, you head into class and people next to you make sure to sit at least two seats from you in all directions to avoid your sickness as much as possible.

"Is anyone sitting here?"

"Yes, my germs." *Proceeds to sneeze*

9. You are truly sick at this point. You feel weak and you need a savior. So you turn to your roommate and ask them for help.

This is a very hard decision for the roommate because you know you hate them and they hate you (unless if you are really good friends with your roommate). However, they show some sympathy and decide to take you to the hospital.

10. You are going to turn religious at this point, hoping some miracle would happen to make you feel better.

Yet again, the next day, you feel a lot better.

11. You made everyone else sick.

What happened to the guy you always talk to? Maybe, just maybe, you might have passed on something to him.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
