5 reasons why snakes are the best pets
Nacha Promsatian

Before owning my first pet snake I was terrified of them. I had never held a snake before in my life and just the idea of having one in my room was ridiculous to me. I was raised to be scared of them and one day I had this impulsive decision to go to the East Bay Vivarium and buy my very own pet snake.

I ended up with an adult size Children's Python, his name is Salazar. Of course, named after the glorious Salazar Slytherin, he was my first reptilian love. We did everything together; watched Netflix, took selfies, had long conversations about life, I even took him to the park with me once. I was obsessed.

Sadly, I had to give Salazar to a friend before moving to LA. I was plotting to sneak him into my dorm but I'm pretty sure my roommates wouldn't have appreciated seeing frozen mice in our little fridge. Despite having to feed them mice snakes are the best pets to have and here's why:

They know how to take bomb selfies

Salazar and I had the best time take selfies. He just knew when to post when he was suppose to.

They don't make any noise

Okay he did make noise but it's the noise of him slithering around him his tank at night since he's nocturnal.

They eat once a week

Giphy

This is also dependent on the snake as well. I tried feeding Salazar twice a week and he started getting fat rolls on his tail. Yes, snakes can be overweight too.

Best Medusa halloween prop

Salazar was the best prop and because everyone was scared of snakes no one dared to touch me that night.

You can practice your parseltongue

To all you muggle borns, parseltongue is the language of serpents so yes I may or may have not tried to speak to my snake quoting Harry Potter.

Snakes are the best pets for people who want love and affection with less work. What I mean by less work is that they don't require your attention 24/7. They like to be left alone and occasionally you would hold them and help them exercise. They do require a lot of responsibility in aspects of cleaning and temperature control. Like us, they are picky about their water and food but like all living beings, why would they consume spoiled stuff.

If you are planning to own a snake, do a bunch of research before! They are delicate animals and just because they don't look affectionate and cuddly doesn't mean they don't need all the affection and care from you.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

Yes, the math major is doing a math-related post. What are the odds? I'll have to calculate it later. Many people have probably learned about the Fibonacci sequence in their high school math classes. However, I thought I would just refresh everyone's memories and show how math can be beautiful and apply to physical things everywhere around us with stunning examples.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
