Country break-out star, RaeLynn, is already causing tears to fall with her new song, "Love Triangle." The first time I saw the name of the song, I thought it would be another sappy song about a girl and a guy plus a third party crushing on someone. Boy, was I wrong, and thank goodness I was! "Love Triangle" is an emotional roller-coaster which perfectly describes how children love their parents when the parents are separated or divorced.
The chorus reads:
"Some mommas and daddies
Are loving in a straight line
Take forever to hearten
And then take a long sweet ride
But some mommas and daddies
Let their heart strings tear and tangle
And some of us get stuck
In a love triangle."
There is a very big difference for those children in what society call a "complete" family and those reared in a "broken" family. The chorus itself is enough to shed a tear or two, because RaeLynn is making note of both families. Growing up in the family of heart strings being torn and tangled does not become easier to swallow as an adult either. Though children eventually realize it was never their fault, they still take the repercussions of their parent's separation. Being in a love triangle of separated parents is a hard realization that true love may not always last. True love can fail and be muddled with life. Sadly, it is the children who must still watch the parents slowly fall more out of love with the other parent. And it is the children who listen to their parents fuss and fight for years to come. The children truly are "stuck in a love triangle," because who wants to make the child decide who they want to spend more time with? Even harder is having to readjust to two different lives once bi-weekly visits and summer break visits begin.
Talking from personal experience, whilst watching the video, I could feel how the little girl had to be brave and happy and joyous for her parents even when she was confused. My favorite lines of this song say,
"And some mommas and daddies
Ran outta love in '94
And some mommas and daddies
Don't even talk no more."
The sheer knowledge of knowing RaeLynn is like every other divorced child not only makes her relatable but also vulnerable. She covers all of the biggest aspects of divorce from a child's point of view. Children love their parents, even when their parents no longer love one another. Let that sink in, these two people would rather never see their ex but do for their child. That is another key point of this song, she realizes that her parent's love for her is bigger than their dislike for their used to be significant other. Which only makes Love Triangle more heartbreaking! Two HUGE thumbs up for the lyrics of this song and for RaeLynn for even agreeing to sing this song as a breakout artist. If you have not heard it yet, I would strongly encourage you to simply because it shows divorce from a child's point of view for the first time in a long time and will tear at your heartstrings the entire time.
