Problems Of Travel

Each step more stressful than the other.

Problems Of Travel

Let's talk about travel.

Another synonym for summer is travel. Its the perfect time to escape the rash reality we call life, get that beautiful sun-kissed tan, and pretend we have no worries in the world. Travel comes in many steps, each more stressful than the other.

The first step, like any other is probably the simplest part; choosing a destination. Where to go? The choice is harder than choosing a place to eat dinner but easier than Jane choosing between Rafael and Michael. If any of you watch Jane the Virgin, you will understand this fully. This step is crucial, your summer vacations photos are going to be all over your social media profiles for the next couple of weeks. You have to make all your Facebook friends jealous.

The second step takes the most amount of thought; packing. You are allowed one carry-on and one luggage, and half the times that's not enough. On top of that, you have to plan your outfits. This tends to cue the whole,” I have no clothes” frustration. Breathe, you will get through it, if not Nordstrom is just a drive away. Having that perfect summer night outfit is a must, in the hopes that we find our one true love at your getaway destination. I mean why not have high hopes for this vacation. Just because we have no luck finding anyone at home, doesn't mean we carry that relationship repellent everywhere we go. However, the most crucial part is packing for the destinations climate, not the climate at home. If not you will find yourself wearing a Hawaiian shirt and flip-flops in the middle of a monsoon. And yes, this has happened to me.

This brings us to our third step; getting there. You have waited weeks, even months for this vacation, and the day if finally here. Now there are just a couple more hurdles before that beautiful sun-kissed tan from the beaches in Hawaii or those mountain-sized bug bites from the heart of the Amazon. Make sure to arrive a couple hours before to be on the safe side. That parts easy, congrats. Now dealing with the attendant checking in your bags. At most places, the weight limit is 23 kilograms for your baggage. And of course, we always squeeze that extra outfit, extra pair of shoes in hopes that it will be under 23 kilograms. Now comes the worst part: your bags are overweight, and now you’re expected to remove items. But where exactly are you going to put them, in your already overpacked carry on? Only if we could layer shoes the way we layer clothes.mHowever, you deal with it, and you breathe while telling yourself you are one step closer to paradise.

The fourth step; we are almost at the end. Getting on board. Once on board, you find your seat, and you try a million and one different positions to feel comfortable. Finally, once you feel comfortable two things happen. The person next to you sits down, making yourself adjust yourself again. And it that isn't enough, the person sitting in the aisle before you decides to recline their seat back, causing you to feel more uncomfortable than before. Just when you finally feel comfortable, and you are ready to take nap before you land you hear from the distance a cry of a baby. You breathe and tell yourself only a couple more hours till your worry free.

The final, and most important step; you made it. Congratulations, you are finally at your getaway destination. Enjoy this vacation, you deserve it! From step one to know, you complete the travel process and now its time to sit back and reward yourself for all that hard work. And try to forget that reality is just a plane ride away.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

Yes, the math major is doing a math-related post. What are the odds? I'll have to calculate it later. Many people have probably learned about the Fibonacci sequence in their high school math classes. However, I thought I would just refresh everyone's memories and show how math can be beautiful and apply to physical things everywhere around us with stunning examples.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
