For those who don't know who Logan Paul is, first of all, you're very lucky. He is a privileged white guy who made his start on Vine and has made a career out of acting childish on YouTube. He somehow has more than 15 million subscribers and billions of views of his daily vlogs. His channels are estimated to generate approximately $6-7 million a year.
Because he is thoughtless, he made a video of his visit to Japan where he went to the Aokigahara forest. The forest is known as a suicide site. Knowing that, he went anyway for content. He found a dead body, which was surely more than he bargained for.
Was he smart enough to avoid offending anyone and leave the forest?
Of course not, like I said, he is thoughtless.
Instead, he kept vlogging, laughed at the body, and made it his thumbnail because it was guaranteed to get views.
He has taken a lot of criticism from people on social media, and rightfully so. Twitter is full of angry messages and people begging YouTube to take down not only the video but his entire channel. Logan Paul eventually took down the video himself and was just courteous enough to type out a less than sincere apology in the notes of his phone.
Sure, he's just a 22-year-old kid who apologized, but jumping to his defense is defending not only him, but what he did. He made a joke out of suicide and he does not deserve immediate forgiveness. It takes time to learn from a mistake that massive, and he has not taken that time yet and should be punished. However, YouTube knows he is a huge money maker for the site, so they chose not to destroy his channel, although that is arguably nothing less than what he deserved.
Logan Paul is a lucky guy, who obviously doesn't realize it. He is far more privileged than he will ever deserve. With so many talented artists, musicians, writers and anyone else with an itch to create, struggling to find a platform, it is disheartening to watch Logan Paul catch break after break.
Logan Paul is offensive and rather clueless. Having a platform to produce content is a privilege, not a right. It should be earned and not handed over. Logan Paul insulted every sane person who knows what he did, and YouTube didn't do anything about it. All the while, talented creators continue to struggle to be seen and heard.
It is about time Logan Paul steps into the real world, and more deserving creators take his place.
Logan Paul is disgusting and a disappointment who didn't actually earn anything he has. Acting immature with a video camera in hand is not a valid career if it means disrespecting people in the process.
