5 Reasons Kansas City Was Already Amazing Before 'National Geographic' Noticed

Recently National Geographic named Kansas City as one of the best places to go on a trip in 2018. While I'm grateful for this new coverage, it was definitely pretty amazing before.

1. World champs

In 2016, the World Series was won by our Kansas City Royals. These are hearty fans, who faced years of loss, and when we won, the entire city joined together.

Every single person in the city seemed to have been at the parade and rally. Yet, there was very little to no crime. Out of the 800,000 people there that day, there were only 3 arrests that day, which is pretty great.

2. Jazz

Jazz is the first distinctly American music genre. Often people think of Jazz is from New York, but its roots are firmly in Kansas City.

Downtown, there are jazz houses and bars that bring music to life. Jazz is so important to various groups and is the root of some of the most popular music today.

3. Culture

Kansas City has world-class cultural institutions as well.

The Nelson- Atkins Art Museum has an extensive Asian art collection as well as a beautiful outdoor sculpture garden. Next door, the Kemper Art Museum offers incredible contemporary art. The Kauffman Center for Performing Arts houses operas, symphonies, ballets, musicals, and plays, as well as a litany of other performances.

Kansas City has culture around every nook and cranny.

4. Feels like home

"Toto, I don't think we are in Kansas anymore."

This is very accurate as Kansas City is in Missouri. However, you can't escape the feeling that there is something homey about Kansas City. These are some of the kindest people you will meet. They love where they are from and want you to love it as well.

It doesn't hurt to be nestled in the heart of the Midwest.

5. Major city, small town feel

The best part of Kansas City is the synthesis of all these things. It has beautiful shopping centers, like the Plaza outdoor mall, where you can run into someone you know at every turn.

People want to talk and connect even on busy street cars. It's a city of people who are passionate about said city. That's why so many people are proud to call it home.

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer. And if you haven't already guessed, it's beer. There are few things I take more seriously than my beer, in order are: sports... and beer. Here are my favorite summer brews:

Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

You cannot beat the beach. Believe it or not (which many people may not), New England has a long and beautiful coastline. Most of my high school summers were spent sitting on the Wall at Hampton Beach, getting sunburnt and eating Acai bowls from The Secret Spot. The Wall was the place to be both during the day and at night. We begin our days there with a KB's bagel and coffee, and end them with pizza and ice cream. It’s not a New England summer without that 4 p.m. text from someone, “Who wants to meet at the Wall tonight?” Nighttime is for Tripoli’s Pizza, the sound of waves, and wishes on shooting stars. Wednesday nights are especially important, as those are the nights that Hampton Beach sets off the weekly firework display.
