Feeling Everything Is Better Than Feeling Nothing At All

Feeling everything is better than feeling nothing at all

Experiencing pain is better than building that numb wall.

Scarring thoughts may cross your mind and bruise your heart,

and going through life has been difficult from the start.

But don't turn off every feeling, every care,

for then you'll go through life with your soul completely bare.

I believe to be alive, you need pain,

and that every struggle thrown at you will never be in vain.

Each scar that was left on your frail little soul,

left a lesson, a purpose, for you to hold.

Even though you might question your life, your value, your worth,

God's had a plan set for you since before birth.

He gave you a heart to feel all of life,

and he gave you your soul to withstand every strife.

The world brings a lot of unwanted guests,

and I know you are trying your very best.

Just remember there is no victory without some sacrifice,

and the choice of numbness will always entice.

You are strong, you have climbed bigger mountains before,

and just like a freed bird you will too again soar.

We Need More Than Memorials this Memorial Day
Cape Cod Irish

When I was a child, I used to look forward to Memorial Day Weekend from the time I returned to school after Christmas vacation. It was the yearly benchmark announcing the end of the school year and the beginning of summer vacation. It meant I was one step closer to regattas, swim meets and tennis matches.
