Hi there! My name is Emily Templeton and I am a response writer for The Odyssey Online. Although I became a response writer in December of 2022, I have written for Odyssey since my freshman year at Miami University in Oxford, OH. I recently graduated from Miami with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and writing response articles has been a great creative outlet for me. I was so excited when I received an email about the response writing opportunity because I’ve always loved learning about others’ experiences and fostering dialogue in a virtual environment!
Each week I’m given three to four articles to choose from, related to different topics I’m interested in or have experience with, like studying abroad, body positivity, sustainability, traveling, and relationship building. The topics that I’m able to choose from are often things that I’m passionate about in my daily life, so writing about them allows me to express my thoughts and relate them to others. I like to read each article before writing my response to get a sense of what I can add to the conversation and examine the intent that the original author had with their idea. After I decide on what I want to write about, I usually draft my title, subtitle, and then the article itself! I find that as I write my response, the idea I have for the article changes so it’s great that Odyssey is flexible and open to creative choices. Then I save my draft to Odyssey, add any photos that I would like to include, and bam! It’s that easy.
Being able to see my responses published on Odyssey is an incredible opportunity. It allows me to witness the connections that people make with my content and be a part of a supportive and productive community of writers. Sharing my response articles on my Instagram allows me to connect with my friends and family as well as those outside of my close social network. For example, after writing a response article about the importance of supporting sexual assault survivors year-round I received a message on LinkedIn from an advocate based in Connecticut that provides technology that increases access to resources surrounding sexual harassment. They showed appreciation for my efforts in raising awareness and that interaction truly meant so much to me as I realized the importance of sharing your thoughts on an issue. My goal has always been to emphasize positivity and growth in my work so being able to see that my work is making a positive difference in different communities has been a great joy.
Being paid for my responses was a great reward for taking part in one of my favorite hobbies since the beginning of my college career. I’ve always loved learning about new things and writing about topics that I’m interested in so receiving compensation for something I’m passionate about has been a great opportunity! The flexibility and support that Odyssey offers throughout the writing process are unparalleled and I have had so much fun growing in this role throughout the past six months. I’m so grateful to have response writing as a hobby going into post-grad life and look forward to writing about a variety of topics in the future!

My name is Akansha Singh and I’m a sophomore in college. I’m majoring in Journalism and Media Studies and Economics. I started writing for the Odyssey after learning about it through an email sent by the journalism department in my school. It seemed like a super interesting opportunity to me because I wanted more writing experience. After I showed my interest, I started writing for the Odyssey in November of last year.
Since then, I have been consistently writing a response article a week and loving it. As a Journalism major, I write in my classes and outside of school but I haven’t ever written for an entity like the Odyssey. That is mostly due to how I am able to freely channel my creativity and express myself here that I don’t really have the chance to do elsewhere.
I really enjoy writing for the Odyssey as I have complete creative control and freedom to write about what I want. I get sent a list of articles each week on topics that interest me, and I have creative freedom to write a response article for the subject I choose. Sometimes I agree with the article I’m responding to, other times I like to stray away from the topic and find my own connection in my response.
Overall, it is a very rewarding experience since I get to have my work published on the website and write about subject matters that interest me. Being published is an amazing feeling because I know that people are reading my work and I have an audience, be it small or large. Also, having work to my name is a really nice feeling to have. This opportunity has been really great for me to build upon my writing skills, work on a timeline, explore my interests, and solidify what I like to write about.
As an aspiring author, Hunter knew writing for Odyssey would be a great fit for her.

Hi, my name is Hunter Johnstone and I am a response article writer for The Odyssey. I have been writing articles for the platform since November 2022. I attend Eastern Michigan University majoring in Media Studies and Journalism with a minor in Creative Writing. Last November, my News Writing and Reporting professor sent out an email that had details about working for The Odyssey. I was immediately intrigued as I love to write and I want to be an author one day, so I immediately reached out to Glorie. Not long after, I was offered the position of response writer.
Being a response writer is really interesting because you get to read other people's takes or views and then respond with something that you make your own. That, and your responses can vary in the subject matter. For example, sometimes I post listicles about books or movies while other times I talk about personal experiences. I feel like I can really talk about things that I am opinionated and passionate about without judgment.
Now when it comes to my work being published, I really enjoy that. It is helping me build a writing portfolio and I get such a proud feeling when I see an article written by me and that it is being read by an audience. The feeling of having my voice heard by others is such a gratifying feeling. I also get paid for my articles which is really cool since it's like a reward for writing quality content.
Overall, working for The Odyssey has been an eye-opening experience and an amazing opportunity for myself and my work. I can’t wait to make more content and to further find my voice in my writing.
With their adorable rounded faces and small, soft, fluffy coats, Teddy Bear Dogs truly resemble teddy bears. They are cuddly, happy, and playful. As a result, they are dedicated to making their family members happy and enjoy surprising their loved ones with amazing tricks and stunts.
They are pampered, puffy, and small dogs. They appear to be friendly and polite. Additionally, teddy bear puppies are very fond of games, hugs, and training. They enjoy participating in every family activity.
Sporting dogs were bred to assist hunters in capturing and retrieving game birds. Retrievers swim and focus on waterfowl, while setters, spaniels, and pointers chase game birds. Their jackets are often thick and water-repellant to safeguard against the elements.
The Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, and German Shorthaired Pointer are all examples of sporting dog breeds.
Hound dogs were reproduced to pursue warm-blooded, earthbound prey. Sighthounds are the most common type, and they can follow jackrabbits and antelopes with their speed and vision, while scent hounds can follow raccoons and people with their noses.
All have solid prey drives. The Dachshund, bloodhound, and greyhound are all examples of hound dog breeds.
Terrier dogs were bred to be small so they could hunt down ground-dwelling vermin. They incorporate terrier breeds, which have long legs to recover rodents, and "menace" breeds, which were utilized for bull-bedeviling and presently make buddy canines.
Terrier dog breeds include the Bull Terrier, Scottish Terrier, and Welsh Terrier, among others. Some terrier breeds, similar to the Airedale Terrier, Kerry Blue Terrier, and Irish Terrier, have wavy fur.
Toy dogs were created as companion dogs because of their small size. They are ideally suited for city tenants or anyone residing in a small house.
Toy dog breeds include the Shih Tzu, Pug, and Chihuahua, among others.
Non-sporting dogs were bred to be companion animals and do not belong to any of the other groups. Non-sporting dogs include the Bulldog, Dalmatian, and toy Poodle, among others.
While hiking, you can test out dogs that can keep you safe from dangerous animals like mountain lions.
Working dogs were bred to pull sleds and carts, guard families, and perform other tasks. The Fighter, Extraordinary Dane, and Rottweiler, and a couple of instances of working canine varieties.
Along with service dogs, herding dogs are a type of working dog. Service dogs assist people with disabilities, whereas herding dogs assist with livestock herding.
However, they are distinct from one another because they were bred to herd reindeer, cattle, and sheep. Some are amazing for police and military work.
The Border Collie, German Shepherd, and Icelandic Sheepdog are a few breeds of herding dogs.
