The Atlanta Falcons have been on a winning streak since the season began. However, in a sad loss against the Saints this past Thursday, the newly gained title of "undefeated" lost its "un."
Last season the Falcons saw loss more than they saw winning. Out of ten season games, the Falcons only saw wins in six of them, three of the six being home field advantage.
This four-game winning streak has made Falcons fans hopeful for a possible run to the Super Bowl, but after the Saints were up 14 to zero in the first quarter, those dreams began to diminish.
The New Orleans Saints (2-4) played to win. The Falcons have been fourth quarter finishers for their last four wins, but even with a significant push in the fourth, getting two touchdowns, it wasn't enough to clutch out a win.
Devonta Freeman rushed for 100 yards, scoring a 25-yard touchdown, and also turned a short pass into a 13-yard touchdown. But not even that could help the Falcons keep up their streak.
Freeman's first touchdown cut New Orleans' lead to 24-14 with 13:07 remaining, but the Saints were determined and came right back. New Orleans drove 80 yards in 11 plays. Drew Brees found Brandon Cooks for 26 yards on one third down and Mark Ingram powered down the field for his second touchdown to make it 31-14.
This loss for the Falcons could make or break this season. If the Falcons let this loss get to them, it could be an awful repeat of last season. The Falcons play the Tennessee Titans October 25, and if they lose, the shot at a comeback season could be pushed aside.
New Orleans threw another party for this home win, but will keep an eye on the Falcons because this 21-31 loss could be the start to a new kind of a streak.
