The Beatles are one of the planet's most iconic bands to exist. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison have left such an eminent imprint in the world of music that is yet to have been fully lived up to by anyone else. What makes The Beatles so admirable is that they bravely stepped into a world of art that other musicians were too fearful to explore. From the 1960's to the 21st century, all generations still have such a genuine passion for the foursome. Their unique genre of rock and pop, their meaningful heartfelt lyrics and their undying electric personalities are just the beginning of the reasons why The Beatles cannot and will never be imitated.
But what are some of their greatest songs that have made the group so timeless? Listed are some of their best songs:
5. "Across The Universe"
The opening lyrics, "Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup" were actually inspired by a disagreement between John Lennon and his wife. John went on to to explain that the lyrics didn't turn the song into an angry one—it literally turned it into a cosmic song. What also makes this tune so awesome is that NASA beamed the song into deep space on NASA's 50th anniversary. Lyrically, the song is a masterpiece.
4. "Hey Jude"
"Hey Jude" is one of my favorite Beatles songs ever. I have had people ask if the repetition of "Hey Jude" ever irritated me, but of course not. This song is a comfort song, after all Paul did write it for John's son when John and his wife were going through a divorce.
3. "Blackbird"
I never understood why this song is so sadly underrated. Paul McCartney's lyrics in this song send such a strong messages to its audience. Paul credits the Civil Rights Movement in the '60s being the motive behind the songs lyrics. "I wrote it in the '60s, when the civil rights movement was at its height," McCartney stated. The song's sweet melody shares such a significant message in such a vital period in time.
2. "In My Life"
This song will forever be timeless. In it's entirety, I'm sure there was a conceptual, nostalgic meaning when this song was being written. However, I feel this song is more up for interpretation amongst everyone. Personally, this is why it's one of my favorites. Everyone can relate to this tune, it needs more recognition.
1. "Let It Be"
"Let It Be" has and will always be my favorite Beatles song. It's known that Paul wrote this song about his late mother who he had dreamt was speaking "words of wisdom" to him. Although I cannot relate in that aspect, I find this song to be another therapeutic song written by The Beatles. Personally, this song has encouraged and healed me and others with the raw and simple lyrics and tone.
