For over four years, Alessia Cara has been posting her acoustic covers of songs onto YouTube. Covering the likes of Adele and Ed Sheeran and international successes like Yuna, Cara's eccentric, smooth voice paired with her guitar is music gold. Her first EP "Four Pink Walls," which dropped August 26, 2015, has been highly praised by fellow musicians (Taylor Swift) and the likes of Billboard and Paper Magazine.
Born and raised in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Cara has been artistic from a young age. Writing her own poetry and participating in theater productions. By the time she was 10, she had taught herself how to play guitar and was on her way to becoming her own musician.
The quirky and shy Canadian has the innate ability to lyricize issues so many of us deal with like social anxiety. The questions we ask ourselves when we get to parties, "What am I doing here?" Whether it's the distasteful music, people or the common combination of both, Cara understands the reality of being an occasional anti-social pessimist. Her first hit single, "Here," captures that perfectly.
"Honestly, I'd rather be somewhere with my people, we can kick it and just listen to some music with the message."
Another popular and favorite track on the E.P. is her single, "Seventeen." It's heartfelt and innocent. Her young wisdom and lyricism really shines through. A spunky beat, mixed with an important message about growing up makes the track so lovable.
"I was too young to understand what it means, I couldn't wait til I could be seventeen."
Earlier this year, Cara signed with Def Jam records whose long resume of artists include Rihanna, Kanye West, and Jay-Z, proving she's a young voice to be heard.
