12 Reasons Why I'm In Love With Lupita Nyong'o

Lupita Nyong’o is a literal goddess, and I will fight anyone who disagrees with me. She is everything that is good in the world, and I just want to take a moment to appreciate the beauty, intelligence, and grace that is Lupita. So here we go with another list, but an awesome one -- because Lupita.

1. Her Beauty

She is honestly so beautiful, I don’t know what to do with myself. Her skin is rich and flawless, she’s practically glowing. I literally cannot speak enough to how beautiful she is. Her short, natural hair really highlights the lovely angles of her face. She’s a rare beauty (unfortunately) that we see in Hollywood nowadays and so indicative of how beautiful Africans -- and specifically Kenyans -- are. She is pretty much destroying society’s Eurocentric standards of beauty.

2. Her Style

Lupita slays the red carpet in every single color. She really doesn’t have any bad red carpet looks because she clearly knows how to dress (we can thank her stylist for that as well). There's always a quiver of anticipation at any big event (at least for me) to see what stunning ensemble Lupita will pull off.

3. Her Smile

Lupita has a smile that could light up the world (a cliché, but still very true). She makes you want to smile with her, but you also want to make her smile just so you can bask in the glory that is her smile. As well as being infectious, it's also very regal looking; she just looks like a queen smiling at her loyal subjects.

4. Her Language Skills (and Overall Love for Her Cultures)

I I love how fluent she is in Spanish and her appreciation for her Mexican nationality even though she is Kenyan. It’s really beautiful to hear her speak Spanish fluently and embrace her Mexican nationality. Same with her Kenyan roots, she acknowledges her cultures and always is willing to talk about them. She is really proud of where she comes from and won't let anybody forget it. Apparently, she also speaks four other languages (Spanish, Swahili, Luo, and English)! Can she get any more perfect?

5. Her Acting

My first encounter with Lupita's acting was in "12 Years a Slave," a very emotionally draining movie. She brought Patsey to life with limited but powerful screen time. Also, she had maybe one of the most gruesome scenes in film history and delivered tremendously, capturing the pain, the horror, and the frustration of Patsey. Moreover, I cannot wait to how her acting career flourishes, the roles she will take, and the future awards she will receive.

6. Her Intelligence

She is so articulate and insightful when she speaks. Lupita knows what she's talking about and contributes wonderful things to any conversation she is apart of. Most importantly, she considers the opinion of everyone she speaks to.

7. Her Grace

She’s just so classy with her style and words. She isn’t someone I feel you would see doing anything misguided -- not that it would be a problem if she did since no one is perfect and celebrities are also humans who make mistakes. But she just simply exudes graciousness and respectfulness.

8. Her New Yorker Status

As a New Yorker myself, I love knowing that Lupita lives in Brooklyn and loves it here. New York is wonderfully vibrant and diverse, the perfect city for her to live! As the picture above exhibits, she fits right in walking the streets of NYC.

9. Her Voice

She has a Kenyan accent that's melodic and sing-song in a confusing way. There's a hint of what sounds like a British accent in her voice that throws you off in the beginning but has hints of Kenyan in it. It's wonderful to hear; I want her to read an array of poetry and stories to me. She has such an eloquent speaking voice.

10. Her Love For Her Family

I love how much she talks about her family and their support. I love that she includes them in her success and bring them to award shows as her dates. It's really cute seeing how much they mean to her.

11. Her Glasses

Clearly a superficial reason, but not any less valid, because she really does look pretty in glasses. Her black thick-rimmed glasses really suit her face and it's cute seeing her wear them for events as well as putting them on whenever she is going to read something on stage.

12. Her Everything

She is honestly a beautiful person inside and out (who I act like I know, but I just really wish I did). How does one even fit every reason to love her into merely 11 points? That's right, you really don't. So my 12th reason is my way of trying to include the whole essence and entirety of Lupita Nyong'o. Her kindness, her humanitarianism, her personality, her everything.

I can't even apologize for gushing over her because she's worth gushing over. There are a billion more reasons to love her and things to appreciate her for. So please do yourself a favor and discover the wonder that is Lupita Nyong'o, you will be thanking me (or hating me when you start to fall in love).

Overall, to conclude, she is a goddess, and you need to accept her as your new lord and savior.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
