Even though I tend to be a peppy and optimistic person, I still experience days where I'm down and out. When I get all moody and emotional for no reason, I can always count on my favorite "jam sesh" songs to bring me out of my slump. Using music as a tool to bring up my spirits is ridiculously cliche, but the power of music is insanely strong. The major keys and upbeat tempos force me onto my feet if I'm in my room on a rainy afternoon or make me bob my head and grin if I'm driving around. Do I look like an idiot when I get all excited and bubbly by listening to a cheesy song? Probably. Do I give a single crap about how goofy I look? Heck no! The songs in this list always make me feel fabulous after a long day at school and work or after feeling a little blue. They'll be sure to inspire and excite you, I promise!

1. "Let's Go Crazy" - Prince and the Revolution

Aside from it being extremely catchy and fun, the upbeat synthesizers and spunky lyrics make "Let's Go Crazy" the #1 song to make me happy. My favorite version of the song can be found here.

2. "Can't Feel My Face" - The Weeknd

I love to blast this one in the car with my friends while we drive through town at night. "Can't Feel My Face" is a definite jam song that will always get me in a better mood!

3. "Love is Alright Tonite" - Rick Springfield

I've been in love with Rick Springfield since I was 8 years old, and since then, I've loved "Love is Alright Tonite!" It picks up my spirits and never fails to make me dance.

4. "American Girl" - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

If you've never heard "American Girl," you've lived under a rock your entire life. This song is an anthem at Independence Day celebrations and most sports events, and it's a staple for good reasons. It's poppy and has enough guitar to make it rock. "American Girl" will at least make you smile and dance a little!

5. "Partition/Yonce" - Beyonce

SHE SNEEZED ON THE BEAT AND THE BEAT GOT SICKER! How can you not get pumped or feel like a B-A listening to this awesome song??? "Partition" and "Yonce" will be sure to get you in a good mood and make you feel invincible.

6. "I Do What I Love" - Ellie Goulding

It's very likely that many of you haven't heard this song, but it's seriously amazing. "I Do What I Love" rocks and you'll be playing the air drums and scream-singing to it in no time.

7. "Cuckoo" - Lissie

Lissie has flown under the radar for most of her career, but she's got some great songs. One of my favorites is "Cuckoo" because it's lighthearted and simple. It's a good song to jam to with the windows down on a sunny day.

8. "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" - Whitney Houston

Whitney makes everyone happy, so I had to include this song on the list! "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" is a classic happy song and a total hit.

9. "Diane Young" - Vampire Weekend

Dancing to this song is literally the most fun thing in the world to do.

10. "Fool in the Rain" - Led Zeppelin

Not only is this song adorable, but it's really catchy and upbeat. Zeppelin may be famous for rocking hard, but "Fool in the Rain" shows their soft and happy side.

If these aren't some of your go-to songs to chill you out and make you smile, give them a chance! You might end up loving them. No matter what, they're going to make you, or at least your parents, smile and, possibly even, bust a move or two!

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer. And if you haven't already guessed, it's beer. There are few things I take more seriously than my beer, in order are: sports... and beer. Here are my favorite summer brews:

Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

5800
Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

You cannot beat the beach. Believe it or not (which many people may not), New England has a long and beautiful coastline. Most of my high school summers were spent sitting on the Wall at Hampton Beach, getting sunburnt and eating Acai bowls from The Secret Spot. The Wall was the place to be both during the day and at night. We begin our days there with a KB's bagel and coffee, and end them with pizza and ice cream. It’s not a New England summer without that 4 p.m. text from someone, “Who wants to meet at the Wall tonight?” Nighttime is for Tripoli’s Pizza, the sound of waves, and wishes on shooting stars. Wednesday nights are especially important, as those are the nights that Hampton Beach sets off the weekly firework display.
