1. The Parade!

Seeing the extravagant floats, hearing the marching band (my personal favorite), and catching the candy are classic parade qualities. This year, my town is honoring the Music Department for the 4th of July, so all of the music teachers in the district are leading the parade!

2. All you can eat BBQ food for the whole day

All I can say is YUM!

3. Seeing everyone in your town come together and celebrate as a whole

In my town, there are entire committees who put together the parade, relay races, fireworks celebration. It's nice to see all of their hard work pay off in one spectacular day.

4. Ice cream/Shaved Ice/Popsicles

Literally the best part about summer in general, TBH.

5. Seeing everyone dressed up in red, white, and blue

And then there's me, consequently forgetting to buy a patriotic shirt because I always wear a green band shirt for the parades.

6. The 4th of July parties

Swimming, food, friends, and music is the best summer combo!

7. The Fireworks show!

My town has one of the best Fireworks shows in the area. People come from towns over just to see it, and so many of them show up that every street in a two-block radius is packed with parked cars.

8. Pretending for one day that everything in your country isn't falling to pieces

It's 2017, and still many Americans aren't being respected for who they are as a person, whether it be due to race, sexuality, economic status, etc. But this day should teach us to come together and treat each other equally because that is what the core of this holiday is about. I don't just mean today, I mean every day.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

Yes, the math major is doing a math-related post. What are the odds? I'll have to calculate it later. Many people have probably learned about the Fibonacci sequence in their high school math classes. However, I thought I would just refresh everyone's memories and show how math can be beautiful and apply to physical things everywhere around us with stunning examples.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
