The Nashville Knack: Trella

Hope, joy, and love are some of the words used the describe the goals that singer-songwriter Trella has in every song she writes. Music has always had an influence in Trella's life. At a very young age, she found her escape from reality in listening to music. The hardships she faced growing up laid the foundation in her future as a musician.

The name meaning behind Trella is derived from the Spanish language meaning "star." Just as a star shines hope, she has taken all the parts of her life to create a mission in music to inspire others. Songs like "Retreat" and "Crash" come from the heart. The meanings of each song are different, but after listening to "Retreat" for the first time on Nashville's Lighting 100, I knew I had to hear the story behind the music.

Trella began her life and career in Florida. She went to Florida State University while working hard on writing songs. Once she released some of her music, she saw the fruit of her labor, as many people felt her passion, pain, and love in every lyric.

When Trella moved to Nashville after college, she did not expect that her songs would catch on so quickly in such an overly saturated market. Lighting 100's Dan Buckley picked "Retreat" to be on heavy rotation, Relevant Magazine featured a short segment on her in their online blog featuring her song "Crash," and she has been taking off on Spotify reaching almost 1,000,000 total plays on three songs.

Trella says, "Spreading hope through melody and lyric is my passion. Also, groovin', dancin', and having fun" ignites inspiration for many listeners. It is funny how when those who are closest to us can hurt us so easily. What we do with our suffering is another story. Most people would hide in a corner somewhere, but Trella created something that not only resonates with her own experiences, but to the hundreds of thousands of plays on her songs.

In conclusion, this Florida native has taken her story and transformed it into something extraordinary. Take a minute to appreciate every word in her music. Trella has an EP to come soon so be sure to keep up with her social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) for more information, news, and music!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
