Lizzo Is Taking Over The World And I'm Here For It
She took a DNA test and it turns out she's 100% that bitch!
You've got your greats like Beyonce, Rih Rih, and sure we'll through Madonna in there, but nothing else compares to what the 31-year old artist Lizzo has done for the music scene. She's different. She's a breath of fresh air. She's unapologetically herself.
Born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, Lizzo grew up in the Pentecostal church, later influencing her music style as a pop artist. From eighth grade all the way through high school, she played the flute in her school's marching band, which lead to a scholarship to study classical flute performance at the University of Houston. Today, her flute (nicknamed Sasha Flute) has become a cultural icon in the most comedic way... like it even has its own Instagram page with over 75,000 followers. She's been able to take this melodic, almost formal instrument and make it somewhat sexy? Not to mention, the flautist whips it out after 4-5 minutes of intense dancing and singing and never misses a note. What a queen.
As you have probably noticed, Lizzo is not society's perfect picture of an all-American singer. She's a plus-sized, African-American goddess, a role model for girls who feel like they don't fit "the mold", an inspiration for all who want to simply be themselves. She's not afraid to flaunt her curves despite what other's may think. I mean for god's sake, she had a two page spread of her a** cheeks in one of the most reputable magazines, The Cut. Her 'Cuz I Love You' album cover is literally just a photo of her lying naked on the floor with long locks strategically draped over her voluptuous figure. Again I say, Q-U-E-E-N.
And to top it all off, she actually has a decent personality. Many artists in the entertainment/music industry have either zero character or are far too conceited. Lizzo, however, is a truly kind and hilarious person at heart. She interacts with fans on social media, hangs out with her backup dancers and concert crew, and maintains great relations with competing artists. Am I upset that I'm not her bestie, too? One-hundred percent. Am I even more upset that I won't be attending her Chicago concert in September? I don't want to even talk about it.
Her music has been able to touch so many people, including me. Talented, empowering, and inspiring don't even begin to describe her impact on the industry. Don't believe me? Stream "Truth Hurts" and watch your attitude improve.
