And Then, Fall Stayed
An original poem about Fall approaching. How quickly she stayed!
Hey readers! Fall is upon us, and I am feeling it all over the place- trees turning ever so slowly or the wind providing a small chill. This week's poem isn't one I overthought; I merely let the feelings of the approaching season inspire me to write this. I hope everyone feels that this keeps your mind at ease, even if for a little while. Peace and love to everyone always!
The leaves were waiting
To shed from green to hues of
Gold, red, and orange
How long they've waited to
Feel like how the autumn remains
In the blue sky and the earth
It peels away the heat of summer
Like the quelling of a fire's embers
Making everyone remember
Fall and the colors it brings
Fall and the memories of things
In a quiet space, summer tries
So hard to make one last change and stay
It provides one last embrace
Like a 'good bye for now,' was put in place
The fruit of the warmth feels the last
Bit of the sun's true warmth
Yet, the fruit of autumn rejoices
Their time coming at last
The lakes and waters ripple
For they, too, know the season is different
They roil in routine but still they remember
How the summer kept them tepid in slow simmer
The scene changes in slow but pronounced haste
Awaiting to shoo off the heat like a chase
Fall, in her quick entrance, wisps away
Any trace of the green, shade, and warm breeze
Hastily, she invites the coziness of
Gold, red, orange, and the promise of cold
The earth prepares itself
As it hides away
Any trace of summer's stay
And then, Fall stayed
I look to the ground, my feet in boots
My hair let free to keep my neck warm
My eyes focus on the scene
For summer is now gone
Fall, the autumn, will not retreat
I smile in knowing
That more than the weather
This is the start of something new
Something better
I clutch my jacket tight
My head held high at the sight
"Summer is away, alright,
But here's to an autumn's tomorrow
Here, for the rest of these nights."
